This is what I sent ryan on twitter earlier in the week - sounds like the conversation has moved on somewhat but still basically the same scenario:

Delusional, Capital city club with obnoxious owner and fan base....can only be the Washington Redskins.
Good points but they had years of success under Gibbs and are the only game in town - don't really consider Ravens a threat even though Snyder whined about them. There were reports a few years back that he was interested in buying Spurs. I prefer our Daniel.

That's hilarious. I actually had the same thought myself. The only main difference being most Skins fans still think it's 1985 and that they are still a "marquee franchise." You know, just like Liverpool fans. All the same delusion mixed with bitterness though.

Wow, are we really breaking our transfer record for a 21 year old CB who's only had one season in European football and it was in the Eredivisie? Don't get me wrong, I'd rather this guy be our record signing than Sissoko but it seems like a massive risk.

Can't really track record signings across seasons anymore..records breaking all the time.

I don't think transfer records mean anything anymore.... footballer inflation is almost Venezuelan-size..

Doesn't seem to matter who we try to sign, the market is so fucked up everyone would end up being a record signing :cautious:

All excellent points.

It just seems to be a pretty big risk for a guy who won't come in as first choice, and has only played one season of European football.

I haven't seen him play, well not knowingly, but if he has the pace we have heard he does then he sounds like a great fit for us. The way we play relies on quick defenders with high energy levels. A risk of course but mitigated clearly by reports on him and the fact he has settled so well into the Ajax setup. Ajax is never a bad place to do your schooling and we have the proof in our team.

We could use a fast defender for sure, but the way we play doesn't rely on quick defenders, at least not the CBs

I haven't seen much of him, but first thing i noticed when seeing highlight reels is that he is able to bring the ball out from the back and pass it around.Fits our 'mould' of defenders for sure. Pace will help fore sure though.

I am thinking of the high line we play. It is an attacking approach that takes risks and having quick defenders who can suddenly track back is a bonus.
