I wouldn’t be excited about James (at all) but we should be realistic that the market we seem to be hunting in here is for someone to only very occasionally come off the bench - ie. not a Zaha or Zaniolo.

I would actually not mind Traore with the squad we now have. Imagine the fun he'd have had last 10 minutes yesterday against a team with 6 players on yellow cards. He'd purely be a novelty impact sub with Son, Kane, Kulusevski and Richarlison getting 99% of the minutes.

and then he smashes it into the stands. Same with James. They’re just a bit shit. Might as well keep Gil

He is essentially a creator of chaos. Someone to open doors but as you say useful maybe as a impact sub not a main stay. James on the other hand has less about him, I don’t know if he would even be used much.

If we are going to sign someone, it’s going to come out in the press today or tomorrow. Romano broke Bentancur 2 days before the end of the January window. This is uncomfortably similar.

I can accept Adama over James. James is fast but he doesn’t have that fear factor Adama has.

When Traore comes on everyone sits up, fullbacks know that their life will be miserable for the rest of the game. Dan James just does not have that. We need someone to replace Gil and replacing Gil with Adama is acceptable

That argument doesnt fly when you consider we already have Gil.

To loan out Gil and bring in utter dross because we need someone to occasionally come off the bench is just idiotic.

I personally don’t think 4 top players to consistently rotate across 3 positions is going to be enough. Not a single one of our matches before the World Cup other than the league cup is a throwaway and we have a match every 3-4 days starting from now. We’re going to need fresh top quality players in all 3 positions every single match. We could achieve that with 5 but 4 isn’t enough in my opinion
