I actually see us starting the season with Sissoko and Winks in midfield. NDombele needs time to adapt to the pace of the PL.

I think our midfield could look like this if we get le Celso and Ceballos.

Winks/Ceballos sissoko/Ndombélé
Le Celso

If this is happening we need to get him in ASAP for pre season
IIRC there is a rule that a players needs to have a minimum amount of time off during the off season, he didn't wrap up the U21 tournament with Spain until July 1st. So he might be on holidays for a little while longer yet.

Isn’t Ceballos more a deep lying playmaker than a AM?
Not really. He’s a CM/ AM, hard enough worker for the middle but not really ‘deep lying’ in the way Xabi Alonso or Carrick or Busquets we’re/ are. Though a different style footballer, Modric is a far closer positional comparison. In dxtspurs lineup he’s able to play both the CM and AM roles.

Hard to see how we fit in Lo Celso and Ceballos (although great if we have depth) but I think Winks will step up and hold that deep lying spot alongside ndombele. We'll see though, good situation to have if it comes true.

Think this is another part of 'thinking/becoming like a big club' You build a squad that brings competition, brings out the best in those that want to be the best - or something along those lines.

Onda Cero radio last night: “This week Raul Sanllehí met with Jose Angel Sanchez... There were two names on the table, Dani Ceballos, who won’t go to Arsenal, he’ll go to Tottenham, and Lucas Vázquez. Emery really wants him. There’s a offer of 30m and Madrid want at least 35m”

Apparently Onda Cero are meant to be reliable

They’re not reliable.

If it turns out there’s not much in the Ceballos stories, then that puts the final nail in the coffin for me in terms of the mainstream Spanish outlets.

Absolutely and what I like about the proposed signings is their positional flexibility will mean more competition for a fair few of our players not just competing for a fixed spot. Dele could be affected by Lo Celso and end up being in competition with Son/Moura for the attacking spots. We'll see a few thrive I think and my money is on Dele/Winks proving their quality.

Liverpool are reportedly showing a keen interest in Ceballos.

This could be bollox of course, but it wouldn't be that surprising if it were true.

I think Hercules is right and that's where we're at. If so we need to set a deadline for our terms (loan with option or permanent deal) and then move on to other targets. If money is indeed a problem if we buy Lo Celso etc then we might just have to settle for the loan and think about it next year whether it's Ceballos or an alternative.

They loaned Kovacic to Chelsea with an option to buy when they bought Courtois, so fail to see how it's not possible to convince them.

They'd surely have to shift somebody, even if Milner becomes the backup left back which I can't see.

Fabinho, Henderson, AOC, Milner, Keita, Wijnaldum looks pretty stacked to me. Lallana too can play there.

It's the thing I have been most looking forward to, the ideal to create that competition and the view to not be so reliant on one or two players all the time to dig us out when we need it.

I know we have a long way to go both in this current window and as a club but I am looking forward to this season and beyond if this is our vision moving forward.

Milner and Lallana have very limited futures at Liverpool, and the others are largely different types of players. And he's young and very skilful, but with a lot of potential to improve.. I think it makes a lot of sense for them. And for us too.

I hope we get him but if they throw money at him, will we want that sort of fight?

Possibly, but I won't lose a great deal of sleep if we do miss out on him. As long as we get Lo Celso in there must be plenty of other options we can look at instead of Ceballos. I know Zaniolo has been mentioned. Different player but similarish positions.

Is it possible that any deal for Ceballos is being structured as an initial loan to allow more time for us to negotiate with RM for Eriksen, whilst also insuring us against overspending?

Maybe RM have indicated that they're interested in doing a deal for Eriksen but may have to wait until later in August, as they have already spent a fortune and need time to make some sales first. Obviously that would not work too well for us as our window closes 3 weeks earlier.

Maybe we're willing to pay £45 million (or whatever) for Ceballos this summer, but ONLY if Eriksen is sold. By taking Ceballos on loan initially, with an option to buy, it gives RM an extra 3 weeks to put together a deal for CE. If a deal for CE then doesn't materialise, we can either cancel the Ceballos loan or keep him on and decide next summer if we still want buy him.

I am thinking along those lines too. Loaning us Ceballos would be a smart way of asking for more time for Eriksen while they pursue Pogba, and get around the issue with the later window close over there.

Ceballos is versatile enough to get game time in multiple positions.

I think if Eriksen to Madrid fell through this summer however, we'd keep Ceballos and Eriksen would likely move on in January. The squad bloat would only be temporary, and we could even consider something like loaning out Lamela until Eriksen leaves if needed.

He seems a tidy, classy little player who would definitely add quality but I agree that there are others I want ahead of him.

If Ceballos came in and Lamela left for example I'd see that as a very good upgrade for the squad. As an Eriksen replacement not so much I think that needs to go to Lo Celso.

So selling Lamela, Wanyama, Trippier, Aurier, KWP, Onomah, Jansen and GKN and demoting Skipp?
I only went 2 deep, but yes I'd sell Lamela, Wanyama, Janssen, Onomah, GKN, Trippier & Aurier. Loan out Skipp (he won't be getting much playing time with 3 new midfield additions) and have KWP be the backup RB.

Yeah if the money is there then Lo Celso needs to take priority. He has more to his game IMO. Ceballos/Lo Celso would give us the creative depth we've been lacking, we'd need both of Eriksen left.
