I’m still not fully convinced Maddison is good enough to be a starter for a team with our aspirations. A very, very good player for a team like Leicester to build a team around, but I feel like that’s his level.

Possibly, but he’s only had one season I think in the PL. He’s still learning and with us would have had better players around him.

Although the flip side I suppose is what was alluded to above, in that maybe with us he would not have amassed the playing time he’s had at Leicester.

Just think it would have been good to get an Eriksen understudy in a few windows earlier, rather than having to replace him now.

Tottenham closing in on Real Madrid loan but another transfer remains up in the air

TOTTENHAM are closing in on the loan signing of rising Real Madrid star Dani Ceballos.

By Paul Brown / Published 5th July 2019

But it is understood they have not made a bid or even entered meaningful talks over his Spain Under 21 team-mate Dani Olmo.

Reports in Spain suggested Spurs had clinched a deal for Olmo, who can play in a variety of positions up front.

But while the 21-year-old Dinamo Zagreb forward has been offered to the north Londoners, it is Ceballos they are pushing hardest to bring in.

AC Milan are also chasing the highly-rated Real midfielder, who already has six caps for the senior Spain team.

But sources close to the player claim his preference is Spurs after Mauricio Pochettino personally guaranteed him regular first-team football
.
Ceballos sees his long-term future at Real but said recently he wants to play 40 games next season, and he has been told he will get that if he joins the north Londoners.

Something about this transfer doesn’t sit right with me. Seems like he just wants a bit of exposure before going back to Madrid.

Loan only makes sense if it helps smooth over a transfer for a decent fee of Eriksen, who we then replace permanently next summer. Otherwise we should have no interest developing another club's talent ahead of our own

Loan with an option is best

I'd assume it would be a similar deal to Chelsea and Kovacic where we negotiate a price for him next summer (although I'd sleep easier at night if we just did it now).

We have done one loan in the last 7 years and it was for a third string goalkeeper. Logic would indicate that if it’s a loan for Ceballos that there’s a clause for future purchase in the contract or we have a good alternative reason for doing it. There’s no reason to question this based on our track record with loans.

I'm not entirely convinced it will happen, despite the stories. A lot of bluster over in Spain, which seems to be rehashes of the same story. No real mention of an option to buy and talk of assurances over playing time, both of which are dealbreakers for us I feel.

I don't doubt its an option, but I don't feel its days away, however could be very wrong. I still think this is dependent on Eriksen going, even if the deals aren't directly linked. And the chances of Eriksen departed are going down by the hour with Pogba's games.

Ceballos/GLC/Eriksen...I doubt all 3 will be spurs players and given the GLC updates + Pogba stuff, im leaning towards Ceballos as the odd man out.

The fact we had ITKs hinting that this could be a goer just hours after Ndombele signed makes me feel this could actually be happening.

Even with an option to buy, he doesn’t have to agree to it at the end of the loan. I just don’t think we should be developing a bigger clubs younger players.

I’m not against loans if it’s for more experienced players who for one reason or another want out ( or like Bale are being pushed). They just want to feel the love.

This seems different, as if he’s just using us to gain experience and playing time, the way we’d send one of our young players out on loan to a smaller club.

Maddison, by all accounts, wanted more game time than he was going to get here.
That was when he left Coventry and went to Norwich. When he went to Leicester we were otherwise engaged on trying to buy Grealish.

Still very confused at the Pau Lopez loan, he’s actually done pretty well since

Lo Celso a Lamela replacement/upgrade and Ceballos an Eriksen sub/alternative? With both the opportunity to be an alternate in Dele’s spot, I guess that’s how that would all work.

Yeah I'm pretty sure he doesn't know anything and has just copied the AS article.

As the squad stands right now plus 2 more in, we will definitely be winning a major trophy next season. I also think we are going to sign more than that
