Which english players have left us? I can think of robbo as one who played a lot for us, but who else? We do still have an english core, it's just we have more players in the squad challenging for their positions. When fit we would have King, Woodgate, Dawson, Jenas, O' Hara, Lennon, Bentley, Bent and Campbell who can all be considered as in or around the first team.

It starts at the top with Villa. Lerner had no previous experience in Football, yet he brought in a manager to make all the football decisions. Lerner has backed his decisions and provided him with the best setup to meet his needs. Lerner trusted MON and has stayed in the background to provide him with any support he might require. A transparent setup with full accountability...so unlike ours. The difference starts there and the results are plain as day.

Deadly Doug brought in MON, Lerner landed on his feet.

I stand corrected...but my point is that he he didn't fuck around and change everything because he didn't trust the football people. He left well enough alone and trusted them.

That doesn't always work though. Levy thought he would bring in Hoddle and trust the "football people" at the club, but that didn't work. He then went around the best run clubs in Europe, studied and consulted with them and brought in our system, under which we have had some very good times in the last few years...

He undermined Hoddle by placing Pleat in an undefined position. Pleat, would then question Hoddle's ability.
