I reckon Conte will be wanting to keep this extremely tight tonight, and get out of there with a scrappy draw - 0-0 or 1-1. Chelsea's line-up looks a bit disjointed to me, so I think we may get away with that. Of course the presence of Lukaku with a point to prove is a bit of a worry though. But even a 2-1 loss would be a decent enough result to take into the second leg.

You know I want to see Kane step up tonight, games like these he has too often gone missing.

If he wants to win trophies so badly, how about a brace tonight to set us on our way?

Hopefully Tanganga has a better game than his last outing against Norwich, he got absolutely rinsed time and again by Brandon Williams before being subbed, think is last game before that was his red card against Palace.
he started in the 3-0 win against palace.

Eh? He's played quite a lot. Full 90 at palace in the last match for a start

Our team or the Chelsea team doesn't worry me, including Doherty at LWB. It's more so how much we seem to struggle away from home and I'm not sure Chelsea away is the game for that to change.

Feel like we really need big games from Son and Lucas to persistently give them things to worry about. Hopefully Son in particular won't have oil on his boots tonight!

This will be our fourth two-legged semi-final against Chelsea in this competition.

So far:

They've just edged us out (last minute goal to win in 1971-72)

We've absolutely mullered them (with a 5-1 victory in the second leg in 2001-02)

They've just edged us out (on penalties in 2018-19)

So, by my reckoning, it's our turn to absolutely thrash them this time around. Keep it tight at the Bridge and then soundly beat them at our place. COYS.
That first one (second leg though) was fifty years ago to the day. Went with my dad - remember well Cyril Knowles letting Alan Hudson’s misshit free kick squirm under his foot on the line. Never known 50,000 people to be so deflated! Was always pleased that Chelsea lost to Stoke in the final.

It's a bit weird considering Doherty was perfectly fine at Left Wing Back when he came on against Saints.

Obviously not ideal but needs must and it would just be nice if, for once, the usual suspects could hold off absolutely digging out a Spurs player before he takes the field.

Anyhoo...

COYS!

No better man than Lukaku to sulk, so that may go well for us... If you consider there's a world in which Doherty as left wing back can permit things going well for us.

To be fair, he was playing against a 10-man team who had retreated into their own half and he fluffed two or three great opportunities. He was below average at best, IMHO.

Never confident against this lot, particularly at their place but they've also had to rejig things about so maybe?????

I think it's legitimate to opine on the line up. This is a discussion forum, after all.

Doherty didn't do well against Southampton - in my opinion - as we needed width and he kept coming inside. But the blame for that has to partly lie with Conte for playing him there.

Maybe Conte will have had more time to explain to Doherty what he wants out of him in the role before tonight, and maybe we will need to play a bit more narrow, so being on the wrong side will be less of an issue.

There’s a difference between being surprised and disappointed none of our left backs are fit and slagging off the manager/predicting a massive certain loss just at the sight of a name.

but you know that.
