One change to the team that started against Manchester City last time out in the Premier League as Joe Rodon comes in for his first start in place of injured Toby Alderweireld. As Rodon steps up, Davinson Sanchez returns to the bench.

Master meets apprentice once again in a mouth-watering London derby on Sunday when Lampard welcome us and his former manager Jose Mourinho Stamford Bridge. An attention-grabbing fixture at any time, this showdown promises to be even more encapsulating than usual with both of our teams in fine form and flying high in the Pemier League table. As if there were not enough sub-plots to this beautifully balanced derby already, Sunday's showdown will be the 1,000th match of Roman Abramovich’s reign as Chelsea owner. It is difficult to think of a more fitting fixture to mark the occasion as two of the men most responsible for the that club's success in that time go head to head once again.

No English club has won more major trophies than Chelsea's tally of 16 since Abramovich took over, and Mourinho was manager for half of those. Lampard, meanwhile, was a player for 13 of those 16 successes, scoring more goals than anyone else in the Abramovich era while only John Terry has made more appearances. Abramovich, Lampard and Mourinho are three men without whom it is impossible to write the history of Chelsea now, but Mourinho - having once famously vowed to never manage Tottenham - is now looking to carve his way into our folklore.

Having led Chelsea to their first top-flight title for 50 years, Mourinho's aim now is to end an even longer drought by steering us to the crown for the first time since Bill Nicholson’s double winners of 1960-61. Liverpool's injury troubles and Manchester City's worst start to a season for more than a decade have seemingly opened the door for an outsider to launch a genuine title bid this season, and on current form both of our sides are right at the front of the queue. Indeed, heading into the game week we lead the way in top spot, with Chelsea only two points and two places further back. We also boast boast the joint-best goal difference in the division too.

For us, our win over Man City last weekend was a statement of intent as far as our title credentials go, with the added benefit of sending us top of the table with pretty much a quarter of our season gone. Regardless of what happens on Saturday, we are guaranteed to have spent at least seven days at the summit this term, which is already more than we have managed in our previous 10 seasons combined. This is the latest stage of a season that we have started a game week top of the table since January 1985, and if we are still leading the way at the end of a run which sees we play Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers in succession, then our hopes of finally being crowned champions of England again must start to be taken seriously by everyone.
There are already plenty of reasons for our supporters to start dreaming, then, and victory at Stamford Bridge would also seal our best ever start to a Premier League season. Given our truly terrible record away to Chelsea, such a result would be perhaps more significant than last weekend's victory over Man City, but we have every reason to be confident.

We have won all four away games so far this season and could become only the fifth team in the Premier League era to win five such games on the bounce at the start of a season - a feat we have only achieved once themselves in our entire history, incidentally in our last title-winning campaign. Our men are coming up against a team in fine form themselves, though, and looking at recent results alone there is very little to separate the two sides. We have won each of our last five across all competitions, including yesterday’s 4-0 of Ludogorets in the Europa League, while Chelsea have won their last six, most recently beating Rennes in the Champions League on Tuesday night. Indeed, Chelsea's last defeat of any kind came in September at our own hands, with us winning an EFL Cup clash on penalties. In the league alone we could win five games in a row for the first time since December 2018 and are on a league-leading nine-game unbeaten run, while Chelsea are hot on their heels with seven unbeaten.

Even in the goals column there is very little to distinguish between us - Chelsea's league-best tally of 22 goals scored is just one better than us, while our league-low tally of nine conceded is also just one better than the Blues. It is that latter statistic which has been most responsible for transforming Chelsea from top-four hopefuls to possible title contenders, with Lampard having seemingly fixed the defensive issues which undermined their chances earlier in the campaign. Nine of those 10 goals Chelsea have conceded came in their opening five games compared to just one in their last four, and if they can keep our deadly duo of Kane and Son at bay this weekend then it could give them a victory worth much more than simply bragging rights.

Lampard has confirmed that Christian Pulisic now back in contention after a hamstring injury, leaving him with the rare luxury of a clean bill of health. The winger may not be ready to start just yet, but Lampard does also have Kai Havertz available and he could make his first start since his positive COVID-19 diagnosis. Indeed, there are difficult decisions to make all around, with the likes of Hakim Zivech, Timo Werner, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Olivier Giroud also pushing for those forward places having all got themselves on the scoresheet recently. Tammy Abraham can also count himself amongst that group as he attempts to score in three consecutive Premier League games for the first time since September 2019; he has now scored 18 top-flight goals since the start of last season, which is twice as many as any other Chelsea player. Amidst all that competition, perhaps the most crucial position of goalkeeper has now been nailed down, with Edouard Mendy keeping seven clean sheets in his 10 appearances for the club - although he did concede on his debut against us. Mendy will be coming up against arguably the league's two most in-form players as well.

Kane has averaged a goal or assist every 50 minutes so far this season, scoring seven and creating nine more, while Son has found the back of the net nine times himself and could become the first Tottenham player to reach double figures in 10 games since Gary Lineker in 1991-92. We have had two days fewer to prepare for this game than Chelsea have, and we also have more injury concerns with Toby missing due to a groin problem. Davinson Sanchez played the full 90 minutes in midweek, suggesting that Joe Rodon could be handed his full Premier League debut in place of the Belgian. Lamela is also absent, but Mourinho is more hopeful over the fitness of Lloris Lo Celso and Bergwijn, all of whom are expected to be in contention.

For all of our good form this season, our record at Stamford Bridge remains dreadful - just one win from their last 34 visits in any competition and only one clean sheet from the last 17. Home or away we have only ever won seven of our 56 Premier League meetings with Chelsea, including defeats in each of their last three - more than we have suffered in our previous eight editions of this fixture. Another victory for Chelsea would make for their best run against Spurs since March 2002, while it would also see Mourinho lose three consecutive league matches against the same manager or club for the first time in his illustrious career. Indeed, Mourinho has failed to win any of his last five returns to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, since picking up a win on his first return with Inter Milan in 2010.

I really want to win this but I think Chelsea and their front line will be the difference, so I'm expecting a narrow defeat but the project is still in force

Okay, the last time we were in any reasonable position to win the PL, Chelsea thwarted our efforts in the Battle at the Bridge, as we came away with only 1 point. This is the ideal game for some type of recompense by coming away with three 3 points instead of 1, where would maintain our position at the top of the table (Liverpool wont beat BHA by 8 goals) and putting a dent in Chelsea's efforts, in other words the ideal result to the Ultimate 6 pointer!

Spurs, I have faith in you, do it for the Cockerel!! COYS!!

[Edit] To be honest I feared the Man City game more and look how that turned out!

Possibly an unpopular opinion, but a draw there would be a good result.

7 points from the next 3 league matches before we go to Anfield.

Before the Man City game. I said I could not decide what way that was going to go. I’m exactly the same this week. Not a clue. Win lose or draw. One of them.

They just showed the full Battle of the Bridge on Sky Sports now. Still irritates me how those fucking pricks were largely shite all season but turned up that night, and not forgetting in the lead up to it Fabregas was on MNF saying they would do everything to stop us winning. It was Hazard's third goal all season.

Lamela stamping on Fabregas' hand, Dier dishing out potential injury causing tackles along with Rose, Walker, Kane and Mason was beautiful. But such a shame we couldnt hold out that night for a win.

Win it, go 5 points clear of them and send the whole prem a message that we mean business this year! It’s time to put on our big boy pants.

Understand why some fear their attacking prowess...but seriously, in case we've forgotten, we have the best two in the league.

Now, if this was a packed Stamford Bridge I'd say we be right up against it with them clear favourites.

But as it stands it's a coin toss, if anything I slightly fancy us more had Toby been fit.

Still, I'm going for a 2-1 win.

Kane brace for us.

To be honest I can't wait to see ndombele vs kante in that midfield. I think Chelsea are very dangerous going forward and like to control the midfield.

But if we can get at them we can certainly score.

I know we won't but I'd love us to go toe to toe and play lo celso, ndombele and bale.

It's going to be a scrappy affair and I worry about aurier and Sanchez against Werner. Sissoko needs to be on it.

Mourihno will target the area behind the fullbacks and I imagine Bergwijn and son will try to get in behind. It's going to be a fascinating game.

Time to see how good we are.

This fixture is always the worst imo. Chelsea always show up against us and their shit players always show up (Willian, Alonso, Pedro recently) so I’m sure Werner will convert those easy chances he’s been missing lately.

I want to win obviously but a defeat will not lower my hopes of winning the league. These stretch run is difficult but that just means easier games towards the end of the year.

I think of all the teams in the league who are probably quite well equipped to deal with us, player wise anyway, it's probably Chelsea at the minute.

Will be really interesting to see how we approach this as Chelsea have fared well against a mid-block this season but looked vulnerable whenever teams take the game to them.

We'll probably do the same thing as v City and it may well work but if we come of of the blocks pressing high then we'll know that we really can change our system on a game-by-game basis.

I think this is such a hard game to call.

Chelsea are great on the ball and have a very nice possession game, combined with some real talents like Werner and Ziyech. Unlike City, they're not afraid to mix it up, and are far more dangerous from crosses into the box.

However, I also think they're very vulnerable on the break as they commit so many men forward. If you can beat the press and counter quickly and intelligently then they're there for the taking. Mendy and Silva have made them much stronger defensively but if they play a 4-3-3 we can really get at them if we attack quickly and decisively.

In previous league games we've tried to sit back and pick them off but have sat so deep that they've just completely dominated us. We have to get the perfect balance: apply just enough pressure to keep them at arms length, while not leaving space in behind for Werner. We also need to make sure Ziyech doesn't have time on the ball: he's quite easy to mark out of the game as he can't really beat a man and is weak physically, but if you give him half a second he'll kill you with that left foot.

Does Frank stick with the 4-3-3 or twist and go 3-4-3? Can we get Ndombele into the game to feed our attackers? Can we keep Ziyech quiet? Can Werner hit a barn door with a banjo as he's failed to do so many times this season?

Really fascinating contest and I'd hate to bet on it. A 3-0 win to either side wouldn't surprise me, yet a 0-0 draw also seems highly likely.

I agree but a win while also doable, would be better! This is where I think we as a club do not win things because we settle for mediocrity at times. Go for a win I say.

This game will be won in midfield.

If we shut down Mount, Kovacic, and Kante we'll win the game.
