He's an accident waiting to happen, it's just peculiar it didn't happen yesterday. It's a bit different playing there as part of a three as you get away with more I suppose.

I agree that he was very good and composed yesterday. However, the shape of our set up by Harry in the second half was by far more ideal to combat the ugly bullying way Stoke play.
In fact I thought that Stoke lost their way in the second period and hence our defence had much less to deal with. We were comfortable at the back and that maybe was a contributing factor towards Bassong looking so good.
That said, I wouldn't take anything away from his outstanding performance.

He had a good game when he came on yesterday.

Im increasingly becoming worried that its Gallas who is the weak link of our centrebacks. Hopefully its just a lack of playing time and he gets up to speed soon.

People forget how good he was for us a couple of seasons ago when he played over 20 league games. He's decent. I would prefer him to Gallas these days.

Gallas was the wrong option against Stoke. He is terrible in the air.

I don't rate him personally but fair play, did very well yesterday.

Not to jump on the band Waggon here but Gallas is pretty weak these days, not strong enough physically or technically anymore at Centre back, a good signing for last year but not good enough this year...

Hopefully Gallas and Bassong can put in some performances whilst King and Kaboul are out

To be honest i think his head went down a bit when he lost out on his regular spot he had in the season before last when we finished 4th. To have lost out on that spot and then to end up lower down the league last season i think put him on a bit of a downer.

Like others have said he seems to have now picked himself up and decided to fight for his place in the team.

Good performance from him yesterday.

bit unfair on gallas dont you think? he has been out injuried for the most of the season and has barely played. now if you look back to last season were he was excellent for us you will recall that he started the season extremely slow and many people saying what you just did, oh his past it etc.
Once he got 5 or 6 games under his belt he was key starting 11 player

I think Bassong has always done well when given a run in the team. The problem is that since the season we finished 4th he hasn't had a decent run in the team. He's basically now about 5th choice. Which is a bit harsh on him as he did have a great season that year alongside Dawson. However when he has been given the odd opportunity he's been below his standard, Fulham in the FA Cup last season he was shocking.

For his career it's probably better he moves on as he's unlikely to get enough games to establish himself. Then again if he can play like he did yesterday then maybe he will have a future with us after all.

Gallas is still a little rusty looking but he hasn't played much football in the last 7 months and had no pre season at all, and most players will tell you how important a good pre season is.

Bassong did brillantly yesterday, and hopefully that will of helped his confidence because he has a little work to do yet at Spurs before he departs - if indeed he does.

Don't forget he's playing for his own future, be that at Spurs or somewhere else.

It's a myth that he turned shit.

lacking match sharpness perhaps, but he was never shit.

I agree.
The only problem with Bassong, IMHO, is himsself...he issued statements saying that he understood that if King could start he should, and that he had to bide his time. And then, after nor biding his time for very long, he started complaining about not getting game time.

If he took his place on the bench and actually did bide his time, I would be more than happy for him to stay.

Yep too many people creaming in their pants over Bassong yesterday.

He did well when he came on but i can't remember him having to do too much defending. He's decent back up and nothing more than that, but to suggest he was "excellent" yesterday is a massive over exaggeration to be fair.

Some people on here are unreal, last week most wanted to hang him, this week they want to suck him off.

Echo the sentiments that Bassong has never been shit, of course he will be a little rusty when he only plays occasionally, but when he played regularly for us he was excellent.

Bassong is no more error prone than Dawson, he's just not as loved by the fans.

He's not shit, but he's not very good either.

He's certainly not good enough to be our back-up centre half IMO. Caulker's possibly more consistent than him already, Dawson, Gallas, Kaboul and King are all better.

Mind you, I think people are getting a touch carried away with Younes at present...

Dawson is twice the player Seb will ever be btw.

Nope.
Not creaming over his perfromance yesterday.
Pointed out flaaws in his game in his first season, that other posters didn't acknowledge.
Just happen to think that painting him as shit, just because he ahsn't been playing and said he wants to leave to get games, is a bit silly (at best).

On what evidence is Caulker as consistent as Bassong? Has Caulker played 20 odd games in a side that qualified for the Champions League with a mean defence?

And Dawson is in no way twice the player Bassong is.

I'd go along with that. I don't think there's much in it, if anything.

Different players, probably right they are about the same level - although I had really high hopes for Seb after 09/10 but for various reasons including a few dodgy performances it hasn't happened for him.

We could probably have done with Daws yesterday as the Stoke bombs were crashing into our box, winning headers and chucking himself in front of oncoming trains.

I don't think he's passed it and I thought he did ok for us last season but wasnt sensational... his positioning isnt that great and he doesnt win enough in the air... look at Ledley and you can see the difference... wins everything in the air and is very tidy on the ground Gallas isnt great on the ball and only has a bit of pace to get him out of the trouble he creates...

Still a good back up but we are undoubtedly weakened when he plays... I'm not one to bash any players in our team and support him when he plays but if you watch closely he makes a lot of mistakes...

I agree but Dawson had a shocking second season but managed to pull it back and i cant see why Bassong cant do the same

The abuse dawson use to get during that bad season was unreal when you consider that he was considered as Englands top CB by the media earlier this year
