A while back people were saying that about Docherty.
They love a scapegoat on here.
I understand your sentiment as some in here love a pile on, but Royale really isn’t suited to this system.

Great lad it seems, superb engine, not bad defender at times, but he’s an awful wing back!

When Conte’s system requires creative wing backs you are seriously marginalising the right had side using Emerson.

I thought we were actually still in it before Lloris decided to chuck it into his own net, but I can't lie the problems this season are happening over and over again and it's worrying.

Lack of control in games means we're always going to be more vulnerable to conceding from fuck-ups, deflections, set pieces etc. Lack of general technical ability on show means we can't create from static situations, making it hard to come from behind or consistently beat teams who sit back. Lack of plan B when the system isn't working.

Any takes from today are over the top as it was two individuals which cost us, but there are questions for Conte to answer about ongoing, consistent issues now. Arsenal were tactically and technically miles ahead of us today.

He just isn’t. People need to start accepting that Arsenal are genuine title contenders. They had an excellent window, a better one than ours, where they addressed all of their weakest points and now we’re seeing how good they are. If we were playing the football arsenal play, we’d be loving it.

We didn’t address our biggest issues over the summer and still play horrid, surrender football under a guy who has absolutely no intention of changing things.

Spot on. There seems to be this idea that because we’ve got Conte we are on track for success, but I think people are in a bit of denial about what we are actually serving up this season performance wise.

The system clearly isn’t working. The two in midfield. Playing wingbacks when we don’t have a single top quality RWB.

We’ve got a good squad so we will always be up there in the table but I’m watching us this season and I don’t see where the improvement is.

In contrast Arsenal look like they have a system that is working and a clear
Philosophy.

Our football is dreadful. Take the rose tints off and ask fans of other clubs what they think of our football. It’s negative rubbish.

We can’t keep playing poorly and winning games. We got away with it last week against Leicester but that was utterly woeful for the majority of the game. Today yet again more rubbish.

We’ve been saying all season, it’s ok it will click eventually, but when? The system is terrible.

Maybe I'm seeing everything through lilywhite lenses, but regardless of the circumstances I'd be surprised to see a ref send someone off for that. Even if it was against us.

It's a nasty challenge, definitely a strong yellow, but he's not dived in, there wasn't excessive force and it could've easily been a misjudgement (Emerson is pretty clumsy). Compared to most reds where players are literally diving in 2 feet off the ground, it's nowhere near as bad. It must've been painful as fuck to be on the receiving end of it - studs on your heel will always hurt - but does that mean instant red?

Perhaps according to the letter of the law it's a red, but I feel like 9/10 you see that challenge in a PL game it's a yellow and a strong warning.
Totally this. I’ve never seen someone sent off for an accidental rake. He wasn’t last man. He wasn’t going in two footed. It was bad at best. Not a red in a million years.

Hang on!! You made the initial statement have the fucking chops to back it up.
Well tbf you challenged without any kind of backing, so onus should be on you. But anyway…,

Picked a 343 when the game cried out for 352, the formation that turned a loss into a win against Leicester and was even more suitable given Kulu’s injury given the bench options.

Persists with a centre two that get overrun every single game, on the off chance that the pot shots we limit teams to won’t go in - but when they do put us hugely on the back foot,

Continues to play this “sit back for first 45” mandated tactic that I don’t believe for a second the players making up themselves every game. Puts us on the defensively and reduces very talented footballers to human shields.

Clearly failed to get us worked up enough - we looked meek and not that arsed for a big game. Put us on the back foot, gave the home crowd a huge boost.

Left us with one up top and a stacked midfield chasing a 3-1 because of his mismanagement of his squad.

I dunno what went on with Spence and our inability to sign a RWB that Conte will actually play….

Anyway. Squad showed its deficiencies today. The limitations of Conte tactics were bared.

Wouldn’t you rather watch how Arsenal play every week? As I would

Shame, felt we were well in the game at the conclusion of the first half. My feed died and I got it back just in time to see Xhaka celebrating ? after that it was the very definition of damage limitation.

Sounds like we shot ourselves in the foot with the Lloris mistake and red card, which unfortunately is a trait we are too familiar with. Hopefully we can bounce back quickly.

This **** Keown is doing my fucking head in. Never heard so much bollocks in my entire life. Spurs handed that result to the scum on a silver fucking platter. Dog shit from Lloris, Royal utterly shit today and totally mindless with that challenge (I still thought the player reaction got him the red as I thought he’d broken something due to the way he rolled about play acting). 12v 11 I actually thought we looked comfortable for the most part and they didn’t open us up once. It was when it went 11v10 that we capitulated and the goal followed so swiftly that it was game over.
I hope Spence gets a run now (he won’t) and I thought that match today would’ve been perfect for him.
He was saying at half time what a good performance it was from Spurs, hard to break down etc.
the narrative changed a soon as they went 2-1 and 11v10

All games go "relatively well" until that team starts losing mate.
Sure you could batter a team and get suckerpunched, that's just football.
But even I was thinking 10 mins before HT that things were going to plan and we do have control over this.

Id have been content if I was a coach and felt confident we'd take it up a notch.

When Kane played Romero in behind it felt like we were going to get chances.

Arsenal started strong and it felt like we'd dampened the crowd and that we were going to get stronger. Their good spell should have been over.

You cant realy account for dumb errors like that, especially 2 close together. That's all on mentality.

We had enough chances to be in the lead in this game before their second goal, but our players seemed incapable of making a decent pass. Just after halftime Romero had a chance to pass to Son but took an extra touch and fucked it. The most disappointing thing is that we handed this win to Arsenal with stupid decisions and mistakes on basic things, Arsenal didn’t do anything spectacular and while they play some decent football I didn’t see anything special from them. Conte needs to change things up and get us playing on the front foot. We defend so deep and it means our football has to be pinpoint accurate when breaking, which hasn’t been the case this season. Dier and Hojbjerg also showing they’re just not good enough but there’s no one else to take their spot.

while royal and lhugo are to blame conte is not completely blameless.... not sure what he said at ht but second half we came out slow. still think he should have gone 352. dropping off against such a good team is asking for trouble and thats what happened. this team doesn't have the players to cope with it despite it being the managers preferred choice.
I concur. We have been playing poorly for almost the entire season but we have been lucky or relying on flashes of brilliance from some players. This is going to be a rough patch for Conte and it's time for him to show us why he is so highly rated. Or will he sulk and moan and leave at the end of the season?

If you *genuinely* believe Lloris always lets us down, you need to give your head a wobble. He had a poor game but he has won us an obscene amount of points throughout his spurs career.
That may be true but Hugo is always liable to drop a clanger in a big game.

Martinelli’s play acting made the challenge look a lot worse than it really was. He was up straight away soon as Royal was off the pitch.

He’s also literally guaranteed us Champions League football by saving a Aubameyang penalty in injury time at 1-1 in a season we finished a point above arsenal.
