It's a social media rivalry but it doesn't compare to the rivalry of our traditional opponents.

Arsenal are not as bigger rivals as Liverpool and Chelsea these days.
Arsenal and Spurs is more a media promotional vehicle.

I dont think theyre rivals BUT I would say that as it stands we are on par with each other in terms of progress in recent years. Liverscum have significant history and will always remain a huge club but in terms of the way it is now, i think whilst they have a better team at the moment, we have progressed pretty much similarly with not much to show for it.

I think thats why this CL final is SO important. If we win, their team and Klopp will become the new 'they must win a trophy' team... thats the rivalry in so far as what happens and successes are achieved on the pitch.

Theyre a bunch of ****s though

Had a heated debate with a scouser in my local yesterday.

He truly believed that Liverpool were favourites to win the Champions league because we only qualified for the final through the away goal rule, but they won their tie.

Of course, politely told him to f*ck off and concentrate on the things they're good at. Namely nicking everything and smashing up buses.

Yup, I agree especially with deluded mugs like this in the world.

The rivalry is summed up perfectly in this one photo.

I've just listened to the clip, fuck that's funny. At least the silly bugger holds his hands up at the end.

What?, lol Arsenal is and will always be our biggest rivals, literally ours and their biggest matches of the domestic season.

It’s an interesting question.

I wouldn’t go so far as to call us out-and-out rivals. Although we’re vying for the same honours, we’re not going full-on head-to-head with them for anything season-in, season-out (the CL final notwithstanding).

I think there’s some recent friction between the clubs. Also, as @Archibald&Crooks said slightly tongue-in-cheek, we on SC seem to hate everyone ?. But much of the Liverpool dislike I’ve witnessed stems more from how their fans are viewed rather than any competitive or geographical root.

We hate Arsenal for geography and specific historical events. Likewise Chelsea. Liverpool, not so much either of those.

Outside of the cauldrons of Twitter and Internet forums, I don’t think there’s much beef between the two sets of fans or between the clubs as a whole.

So, possibly rivals in terms of vying with them and the other four as part of the Big Six, but not as specific head-to-head rivals, no.

As for West Ham, they are not our rivals. They have never been our rivals. They will never be our rivals. They are insects. They’re annoying and can occasionally sting, but for the most part can be swatted or ignored altogether (says the man whose blood pressure spikes every time he sees anything associated with the pikey bellends).

Arsenal are just another team in league these days imo
Liverpool is imo our biggest two game of the season.

Surely not, Stevie? Arsenal are our arch-rivals. Our only arch-rivals. Even Chelsea don’t get that title.

The NLDs are the biggest games of the season for both sets of fans.

Just another team? They are the club we hate the most because of the history and the fact they are our neighbours, Liverpool's biggest rivalry has been and will always be Man Utd, if anything our rivalry with them has been manufactured on social media but it's minor in comparison to both of our traditional rivals, if either team fall away we become irrelevant to each other.

It’s a little bit like the Liverpool-Chelsea rivalry that bubbled up under Rafa and Jose. Obviously those two managers were a lot more narcy with each other and stoked it, but when you are playing big games against each other it does start to brew.
