If anything comes from this when/if he is sold, it gives United a bit of a "save-face" reasoning to sell him. They can spin it as him not following the club's orders, and him forcing his way away from the club.

Not saying that if we got Martial he definitely would or wouldn’t get in the starting 11 but there’s a point to be made that the best sides just stockpile talent and let the 11 figure itself out, e.g. Bayern, Real, Barca.

Agreed but let’s not kid ourselves that we’re in that same market. On our budget we tend to end up stockpiling deadwood not talent.

If we’re really gonna stump up the dosh for the player then fine, but it seems like there are too many things against this one and we should be a bit more savvy..

Wages
Rich Selling Club
Inter-League Rivals
Buying Club On A Notoriously Strict Budget
Buying Club Launching New Stadium To Further Impact That Budget
High-Profile Talent
Missing WC Players

All I know is, if I was Utd I wouldn’t be selling Martial to us, and given their power in the market, i’m not sure they’re ever gonna be desperate to sell.

This would have a detrimental marketing effect though, you can hardly claim someone is a piss whistle for leaving a tour early for the birth of his child

Let's be honest, if your club prevents you from leaving a preseason tour to be at the birth of your first born you'd make sure they wouldn't be your club for much longer would they.

Yeah, it has to be nonsense. It’s a pre season tour for a bit part player. Not the eve of a CL final.
I believe Mourinho was moaning about missing he's daughter's graduation, so I wouldn't put it past him, especially with players he already has issues with.

Mourinho clarifies Martial's reasons for leaving US tour

"I found out that Martial was going to Paris when he told me," Mourinho told reporters after United's 1-1 International Champions Cup game with AC Milan, which they ultimately won 9-8 on penalties .

"It was two or three days ago. When it is personal reasons, everyone analyses that the way they think is the correct way.

"When a man is going to be a father in this case, it's the second time he is going to be a father, and he decides it is very important for him to go, nobody has the right to stop him to go."

Suggests to me he didn't quite agree with it, such as the emphasis on second child and how everyone has an opinion on what is correct, so might be something in the other reports too.

I think he mentioned the other day that he (Jose) missed his daughters graduation due to the tour but that's part of the job.

I just don't bother trying to analyse anything that guy says. He can't be trusted in anything, there always seems to be some hidden meaning in his words. So glad we have a straight talking manager.

Agreed on Poch. I also think he'd be more classy to accommodate players becoming new fathers.

Mourinho seems to be doing his woe is me routine this summer, so the negative interpretation is probably most likely true. I'd be a bit concerned if I gave a shit about Utd.

Cannot stand Mourinho.

The bloke is a gigantic bell end and I'm not surprised at all that he's got the hump over one of his players having the temerity to attend the birth of his own child.

Hopefully it's the straw that breaks the camels back in terms of their relationship and AM will be leaving. Whether we can get him though is another thing entirely.

Manchester United are no longer opposed to selling #thfc target Anthony Martial but will demand a fee worth at least £60M. [RMC]

Had a quick look on RMC but couldn't make it out. Maybe @tiger666 can get to the bottom of it? (Guessing it's another gossip column thing at best)

French media will be good for this I'd have thought, especially now he's back in Paris.
