Martial's only had one prolific season (in which he scored fewer that Plea this season).

Plea had 11 goals in 25 games in 16-17 before he got injured, which isn't bad (although I recognise his injury record is a concern)

Plea is 25 martial is 22. Plea has scored 36 league goals in 111 games for nice. I'd rather use son as kanes backup. I'm still not sure about martial.

21 goals in 49 games last season. Not sure how that's not scoring?

Similar goals/minute to Llorente - Plea = goal/194 vs goal/197 minutes llorente. Middle of the season Plea scored 4 goals in 28 matches when he played 23 full matches, 4 goals in 2322 minutes = goal/580 minutes. In comparison Janssen had a goal/415 minutes in the league here (2 goals/829 minutes over 27 games). Late in the season Plea had 10 goals in 9 games, goal/80 minutes and the first 12 games he had 7 goals/12 games, goal/137 minutes. Certainly a streaky player. If he's not playing much can he be relied upon? Seems like a big risk to buy a player who in his best season had a massive dry patch in terms of goal scoring that lasted from the start of november-mid march. Maybe it's a lot of bad luck and he's prime to kick on, maybe the purple patches are disguising his ability.

As a final comparison, Lacazette had a big dry spell for a similar time - 5 goals from nov-mid feb, 23 games, goal/310 minutes which is almost twice as good as Plea's dry streak of a goal/580 minutes remember. He also picked up at the end of the season, 8 goals in 10 games, goal/90 and overall a goal every 162 minutes all comps. I know josh king was similarly discussed here with concerns of streakiness a year ago vs actually being that good and about to kick on, on the evidence of last season it was a purple patch.

Whilst €26 million is cheap, this guy has had 3 big injuries in the last 3 years:

16/17 - Meniscus tear - Feb 18, 2017 - Jun 30, 2017 = 132 days
15/16 - Ruptured cruciate ligament - Oct 26, 2015 - Feb 8, 2016 = 105 days
15/16 - Knee injury - Sep 22, 2015 - Nov 15, 2015 = 54 days

Does this mean we're saving the money from Martial for someone else????
I like to think that we are not signing Martial and have decided to sign Plea to save money for a very good CM as Martial, though a fantastic signing, is not as essential as a talented midfielder (have to confess my favourite would be Kovacic though is impossible)

I'm not convinced that Plea would take us to the next level and that's what this window is for. Martial has the potential to be world-class, Plea is at best a threat in the second half or a capable back-up for Kane. Honestly I'd rather give academy players a try.

Don't think you can compare plea to Llorente and Lacazette. Plea plays CF and out wide doesn't he ?

Not every signing will be one that "takes us to the next level", we need depth/backup still. We also can't give academy players a try just for the sake of it if there aren't any academy players Poch thinks are ready.

If it's just back-up, then that potentially sets the bar a bit lower when it comes to expectations. May as well take a punt on a young home-grown winger from the Championship. Probably cost the same.

Not that I am advocating we sign him. But some of the negative comments I have seen about this guy does not match up to what I have seen.

It was a comparison of the number of goals they score on avergae over a season. The previous person was saying he scored quite a few, which on the face of it 21 goals in 49 games is a good return, but his goal/minute is very similar to Llorente who I would say did not have a productive season in terms of goals scored (the hattrick washes over that and highlights streakiness can be deceptive). I also wanted to highlight he scored 4 goals in 4 months during the middle of the season which is a concern, especially as he was playing full games 80% of the time. He is a diffrent player to Llorente and is much more mobile which would be useful. Lacazette to my not great knowledge has some similarities in playing style, he can play centrally and move out wide, likes to be played through into space to run past defenders.

I think we can all look at this deal with a slight worry due to the nkoudou and njie failings ? hopefully this guy makes a good impact if signed. Saying that I’m hoping 1/2 bigger names come in if not it’s worrying

If you read the first sentence and last sentence of my post, you would probably understand why your post doesn't change my view.
They've played the same number of seasons in terms of regular playing time.

Transfers like Nkoudou and Njie have happened to every club and will continue to happen to every club. You can't get every signing right.
I also think it's very harsh to compare Plea to those two, Plea played ~3000 league minutes last season alone (~9000 in total) which is the same as Nkoudou played in his entire career in Ligue 1 and around double the amount Njie had in Ligue 1 before they transferred to us.

How good were kanes stats at 20?
I don't understand the relevance of that. I'm saying both Martial and Plea have the same amount of experience of top-level football and Plea has outscored Martial. Obviously Martial is a much better player but someone can't dismiss Plea based off his goalscoring record alone, whilst wanting Martial for similar reasons.
