Tottenham set to make shock bid for £20m star Ainsley Maitland-Niles from rivals Arsenal as Jose Mourinho plots Serge Aurier replacement
  • Tottenham are plotting a transfer swoop for Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Arsenal
  • Maitland-Niles has become their top priority after they lost faith in Serge Aurier
  • The Gunners would listen to offers in the region of £20million for Maitland-Niles
  • The 22-year-old is a central midfielder by trade but has excelled at right-back
Tottenham are plotting an audacious swoop for Ainsley Maitland-Niles from arch-rivals Arsenal.

Transfers between the two north London rivals are rare - but when they have occurred they’ve caused huge controversy, most notably Sol Campbell’s switch from White Hart Lane to Highbury in 2001.

And Spurs are understood to be monitoring Maitland-Niles’ situation at the Emirates Stadium this summer as they look to bolster at right-back.

The 22-year-old’s future is unclear at Arsenal after the club told him they would listen to offers to raise funds for incoming transfers.

The Gunners would listen to offers in the region of £20million for Maitland-Niles.

Mourinho has made a new right-back a top priority this summer after losing faith with Serge Aurier, who is set to leave the club during the transfer window.

Maitland-Niles is a central midfielder by trade but has excelled at right-back or right-wing back under Mikel Arteta.

And his versatility is viewed as a huge plus by Tottenham’s recruitment team.

Maybe if he was out of contract, but as it stands I don’t really see it. Any £20m price tag is down to games played rather than any quality he’s shown

I mean we did lose a hyphenated player name this window already and we know how Levy loves to balance the books so it only makes sense we would be in for another.

He’s a bit like Gedson in that he has some of the tools to be a player but doesn’t excel in any one position.

He’s definitely not a RB. Every time I’ve seen him play there he’s looked like a liability.

Going by almost every account I've seen/heard/read he's done well either side.

Not happening though.

Are we allowed to say that he is actually a very good player?

My inlaws are all Arsenal and they think AFC are making a huge mistake letting him go - Mikel wants to keep him but the board want to cash in to raise funds.
