Just as an aside, Poch's comments tonight suggest a deal for Rabiot is unlikley.

Foyth is definitely taking Dembele's spot in the CL roster. Thus, if we do not move any non-HG players, then a player like Rabiot will not have a CL roster spot - and I can't imagine he considers Spurs if he can't play CL,

Now, maybe Poch would drop Vorm or maybe Wanyama to fit Rabiot in - so there is some possibility. But it seems a HG player is the first priority.

People want to ignore all this. Poch actually said the reason we didn't sign anyone in the summer is because our 'squad was full'. Unless we see sell a couple more foreign players to give us room to name new players in the squad I am not hopeful of signing anyone.

I’ve got a feeling he will end up at Arsenal. They are going to need a replacement for Ramsey and as much as I hate to say it they probably more attractive option for a player pay more in wagee then us also have the Emery factor in there.

If you can pick up a top talented player in a cut price deal somebody else gets demoted. In this case I'd say Wanyama looks unlikely to make any big contribution for the forseeable future. The elephant in the room though is 3 non HG keepers clogging things up. I'd also say that there's no way we get a free run at Rabiot without certain other clubs trying to scupper our ambitions, so overall, not confident at all.

Where has this renewed optimism come from? A Sun article? JJ has said it won’t happen and Poch has said that if we sign anybody, they’ll be British. Don’t do it to yourselves.

We don't have the full context about this 'we'll only sign British' quote.

I'd take a lot of that with a pinch of salt. From what I hear, his mother is a complete arsehole to deal with and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the bad press stems from that. Not saying he's an angel but perhaps he's not as bad as people think. It does make one wonder if that's why the Barca deal hasn't been signed off on, but I haven't been following it all so have no idea.

I would imagine Pochettino will be well aware either way and if he did come, you'd have to assume the stories are just that I couldn't imagine for one minute Poch leaving us open to shenanigans from him or his entourage (mummy).

The suggested reasoning is that Barca can no longer afford the significant wages offered to him after getting De Jong. Wage budget has been an issue at Barca for a while now.

Seems they don't fall into the Levy approach of out before in when there's a quality player on the market though.

That plus De Jong being direct competition now.

It's why they've signed KPB. Low wages and a useful body. They pay an absolute fortune to Dembele and Countinho, and ofc their other stars.

Yep plus Messi's spiralling wages. One paper had De Jong on £300k a week too!

Obviously they have a few players to possibly shift such as Rakitic (who I'd like us to consider if cheap) and maybe Suarez but the latter's replacement would hardly be on low wages either.

If his mother is indeed as reported then I just can't see Poch giving assurances or promises to her that he would be an automatic starter in his preferred position. It's not part of Poch's methodology to do that.

"Players are paid to train"

The only possibility I see is that all offers from other clubs are off the table and he is stuck in limbo, forcing his mother to back down.

This is the type of player we need to beat the high press and initiate counterattacks
I agree, it's very notable the amount of chances and goals we have given up by playing a pass into a poor area, we do need someone who can play under pressure and get us out of those situations. Dembele was so strong on the ball and he'd be our go to guy in those situations knowing that he'd get us out of it, this season we have struggled in that respect, which is why we are conceding more. Rabiot is great at that in a different way, I just can't see it happening.

I don't see businessman Levy letting a player like Rabiot slip through if he can legit buy him now and sell him in 2 years for a profit. Just so Vorm can have a meaningless CL spot before he leaves for free this summer.

If we have a chance i.e. Rabiot is open to the idea, I’d imagine we’d be prepared to offer generous terms given we’d pick him up on the cheap. Thing is, if you’re a young player looking to kick on and the elite aren’t interested then working with Poch must be very tempting given his track record of improving players
