Tottenham hopeful over Brennan Johnson deal as Djed Spence and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg explore exit options

Tottenham are expected to have a clear run at Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson after Brentford ended talks for the forward.
Spurs are continuing negotiations with Forest for the 22-year-old, who is valued at £50million by the Midlands club, and are hopeful of agreeing a deal — although they still need to make room in their squad by offloading a host of unwanted players.

As a young, homegrown player, who can play across the front line, Johnson fits the bill for Postecoglou's new-look side, with Spurs aiming to dramatically lower the age profile of the squad in the wake of Harry Kane's £100m sale to Bayern Munich.

A product of Forest's academy, Johnson has made 108 senior appearances for the club, scoring 29 goals and providing 12 assists.

Brentford saw three bids for Johnson rejected by Forest, the latest worth a reported £43m, and are now understood to have moved on to other targets. If Forest agree to lower their asking price before Friday's deadline, the Bees could yet renew their interest but want to secure more firepower to cover the absence of the suspended Ivan Toney. Brentford, who have also bid for Fiorentina's Nicolas Gonzalez this month, have been linked with PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko and Lyon's Bradley Barcola.
No shot Brentford bid £43mm

Linked to Nuno Tavares among others. They're definitely looking

Regullion is better than him. It would be good to screw the scum over in the process if it meant they had to keep him around, he isnt very good.

Been thinking some more about signing Johnson and tbh, the PL is extremely competitive so it's going to be hard for us to have 60-65% plus possession in most matches.

There are probably 8 teams (City, Scum, Pool, Utd, Chelsea, Barcodes, Brighton and Villa) where dominating possession is going to be tough and so there are likely to be a lot more transitional moments and counters available to us in these matches, even if we have 55-60% possession in a match against them.

This means we won't be facing low blocks all of the time as Ange would have done at Celtic but we will be having a lot more counters in to space etc. Even at the weekend away to Bournemouth, I think we had 57% possession but we still had lots of counter attacking opportunities.

So perhaps Johnson's raw pace will be very useful in many games. Ange can also work on his all round game.

Yeah great point, and also worth bearing in mind some of the new(er) teams in the league are quite progressive. Burnley, Fulham and Bournemouth all actually want to play football and won't park the bus, while I don't think teams like Wolves and Palace will go fully defensive. The only proper deep block counter-merchants will be likely be Luton, Forest, SHU and table-topping West Ham (plus maybe Everton although Dyche does like to press sometimes).

Great point mate.

There were so many instances where Kulu/Son/Richy tried to counter but they didn't have the speed to do so.

We're desperate for a bit of pace in the side.
