Great point mate.

There were so many instances where Kulu/Son/Richy tried to counter but they didn't have the speed to do so.

We're desperate for a bit of pace in the side.
Breaks from defending corners are a classic example of these sorts of opportunities. The number of times we check back rather than attacking with pace frustrates me hugely.

Son has pace, but we just don't see it enough.

Someone posted this video in the Richarlison thread but it has an interesting section on Johnson towards the end.

Darren Lewis from the Mirror says in the below video he understands Postecoglu is seeing Johnson as an option for the left, not the right, primarily anyway.

I think some of it is his opinion because he says he thinks Son will play on the right and personally I don't think there's a chance that happens. Son will move to striker imo.

But he specifically says he understands Postecoglu sees Johnson as an option for the left. I get it's Lewis and he may be way off etc but thought it was worth sharing anyway:

Unfortunately Darren Lewis hasn't been reliable for a long time, and this demonstrates why

Yeah it may be way off but thought it was worth discussing as we haven't really spoken about that.

I wonder if it's possible that Ange sees Johnson as his 'Martinelli' or a long term Son replacement on the left.

For scum, who play a similar system to us, Martinelli is their fastest attacker and they use his raw pace a lot both for counter attacks but also off the ball movements. He can also dribble players too. But he is also a big goal threat for them.

It would mean that perhaps long term (when Perisic goes) we have Johnson and Solomon competing for the left side, with Son and Richy striker, then we sign a RWF in Jan or next summer to compete with Deki.

Another good video with a bit more recent footage and showing more of what he could potentially offer.

So the longer this link persists I have to talk myself into it somehow

He has brilliant pace, movement looks really nice, has some great technique on his shot, and I think most importantly, is deadly at those across the box or to the byline cutbacks that Ange loves in his system with the midfielders arriving. I do think he would be mustard with Maddison, Bentancur, Sarr, Bissouma, Udogie, Porro, Richarlison, or Son all in and around the box in a given match.

Wow that wasn't hard at all. All aboard the BJ train!! 🚀

Yeah we really are, we severely lack pace in our front 3

along with a forward player likely to be Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson. Talks over the latter are understood to have been hugely frustrating, though, with very little common ground between negotiation teams led by Spurs’ Daniel Levy and Forest’s Evangelos Marianakis. As one involved source quipped: “Imagine trying to get a deal done between those two.”

Forest had initially set a price of £40m for Johnson, which Brentford had met, only for the midlands club to make further demands. They would also prefer not to sell to Brentford as they are seen as a potential rival in the Premier League table. Brentford have not yet given up, though, as there is understood to at least be a £15m difference between Forest and Spurs.

I know the market is massively inflated but £55 mil does sound a little much for him.
Don't think it means they are asking for £55m. I think it means we're £15m below their valuation which is probably nearer that £40m Brentford originally discussed. We're probably valuing him around £30m and offering players to gap the distance.

wait stop me if I'm just a naive American fan, but are Forest really "potential rivals" to Brentford? Brentford seem leagues ahead of them in every way on the pitch and in recruitment.

Forest are an ambitious club and want to cement themselves in the league. They need to be outperforming the likes of Brentford to achieve that.
