If we were so concerned about HG players, why did we (a) sell Kane, knowing we wouldn't be able to get in a quality non-HG replacement; and (b) buy Solomon, a non-HG player, to be our 5th choice winger?
The most obvious position to pay a bit over-the-odds to get a top HG player would've been Raya tbh.

I'm really happy with Vicario and he looks an absolute snip at 17m if his first few games are anything to go by, but having Raya as a homegrown keeper would've been a guaranteed homegrown slot sorted for like 5+ years.

Begs the question "how much is filling a HG slot worth?". Getting Raya would've cost us about £12.5m more than Vicario - is that worth it for the HG status if they're similar level keepers? Might end up paying that much extra for Brennan over a non-HG winger anyway...

I think it needs to be considered more holistically.

Have we improved as a side? Would it be better to have directly replaced him, even if the first XI wasn’t as good as it could have been with multiple cheaper replacements?

Im OK with how we’re going about it. It’s possible that the time to more directly replace him ie a new CF will be next summer
You're viewing it based on the improvement seen under Ange and the good start. Imagine how this side could be under Ange and with Harry Kane? I think it's fair to suggest the if Kane had stayed the transfers we have made so far would have been expected so now he has gone it seems unfair to suddenly imply that it was part of the planning for him to leave.

Ultimately if we knew Kane was likely to leave we should never be spending the end of the window scrabbling around for forwards. A 3rd CB or extra CM should have been dependant on outs but not a position as important as forward.

The itk literally said its future planning. Kane wouldn't be here next summer regardless.
I thought the same on Solomon. Can understand Kane even though it's a financial decision instead of footballing.

Think the board couldn't resist potential profit on that one.

That's all part of the juggling act. We have some talented youngsters who could step up soon. Dorrington, Phillips, Sayers, Moore, White etc are all getting good reviews and would sort out our HG issues if they make it. On the non HG front, Veliz might break through this year. The financial benefits of any of that happening are huge and Ange is hopefully here for a good few years. I'm happy to let him tinker around with things for a while so he can get a proper picture of where we most need investment.

Solomon was announced (11th June) by the club 5 days after Ange's appointment (6th June). While negotiations were reportedly going on with both of them simultaneously, it's very possible that Ange gave the go-ahead for the Solomon deal before it was finalised, as he was appointed before it was finalised. We all know that there won't have been radio silence between Ange and the club between the club announcing his appointment (6th June) and his official start date (1st July?). It's also very plausible that the club was set on appointing Ange in advance of this, but needed to wait for the Scottish Cup Final to get the contract signed and go public about it.

I wasn't suggesting that you had been inconsistent. I meant the overall SC views on those transfers (or at least my perception, as I don't read every post of every thread).

Yeah I initially took your post as disagreeing with me and then re-read it and realised you were mostly agreeing with me but I'm still working on discerning the difference between the general you vs me personally haha. So the mistake was on my interpretation, not your wording.

I think your perception of the events regarding Solomon make sense. I just meant in reference to the debate on here regarding signing him. I think it brings an interesting point which is; We're working from the outside trying to figure out what's going on inside in our discussions and I'm starting to question the point of it. People are choosing sides and arguing over little evidence and I don't know if it's healthy. I think the best evidence we have is previous events, though they're tinted by perception. However to not question things or raise concerns, is not something I would ever champion. I think the big problem is when people mistake concern for belief and the debates become as if the two sides are speaking on absolutes rather than Possibility/Theory. I think possibility and theory can't come forward without some bias but I think the discussions would be healthier if we didn't assume a person's theory is what they believe to be true.

I know most people don't care to overthink like this but I just feel like surely all of us want to stop going round in circles, understand the other side and if we're being honest with ourselves, have people better understand us, so that's why I'm sharing

Do we still have a Edwards thread? Reports in Portugal linking us again, HG and club trained rw that fits Ange's style and we have the 35% sell on clause, we were heavily linked last Jan as well right?

I'd be very happy on football terms, my concern would be that life outside of football was a concern before and would that be rearing it's head?

Another good video with a bit more recent footage and showing more of what he could potentially offer.

He looks a very tidy player to my eye. Definitely has something we currently lack and has so much time for further improvement.

Good signing if completed.

DId we not sell the sell-on clause as part of the Porro deal?

Tottenham hopeful over Brennan Johnson deal as Djed Spence and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg explore exit options

Tottenham are expected to have a clear run at Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson after Brentford ended talks for the forward.
Spurs are continuing negotiations with Forest for the 22-year-old, who is valued at £50million by the Midlands club, and are hopeful of agreeing a deal — although they still need to make room in their squad by offloading a host of unwanted players.

As a young, homegrown player, who can play across the front line, Johnson fits the bill for Postecoglou's new-look side, with Spurs aiming to dramatically lower the age profile of the squad in the wake of Harry Kane's £100m sale to Bayern Munich.

A product of Forest's academy, Johnson has made 108 senior appearances for the club, scoring 29 goals and providing 12 assists.

Brentford saw three bids for Johnson rejected by Forest, the latest worth a reported £43m, and are now understood to have moved on to other targets. If Forest agree to lower their asking price before Friday's deadline, the Bees could yet renew their interest but want to secure more firepower to cover the absence of the suspended Ivan Toney. Brentford, who have also bid for Fiorentina's Nicolas Gonzalez this month, have been linked with PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko and Lyon's Bradley Barcola.
