And Stoof - I thought Chimbonda was godd last night - especially chasing after and retrieving a ball that less-spirited players might have let run out after 80-odd mins, and crossing it for Berba's wonder-volley of a goal.

He's Mr Chimbonda to me. Respect.

I have now amended my post as to better reflect what I meant. Comments by 11:00am, thank you.

Still shit.

To the point!

He's not shit by the way, just being burdened with a stupid price tag and unrealistic expectations.

He scored his pen, great.

He fluffed his 1 good chance, poor.

He forced a great save, great.

I make that slightly above average on balance

I agree. He tries hard but lacks the technique/intelligence to score against a tight defence.

Good physique but that's not going to get you goals in Europe.

Except for the two goals he already has in Europe - doing the things you say in your first paragraph that he can't.

But otherwise, it's a great post.

The only thing I would fault Bent for was not taking the shot himself when through on goal (trying to pass to Keane instead)

I just think he is still lacking in confidence and focusing on not looking bad instead of trying to look good. By that I mean he constantly seems to seek to shift responicbilty with a safe pass and hope that the next person will make something good out of recieving the ball rather then looking to create something good himself.

However, during injury time (after he had won a decent header and forced a good save) I was encouraged by his turn and shot when he had options to pass, as although it was closed down it was an indication (to me atleast) that he was growing in confidence and maybe losing whatever has been shackling his game (mental)

I think he will get a good deal of playing time in the remainder of the season, providing the team doesnt go into a lower gear and become complancant I think he will improve a great deal and look more like the player we thought we were signing.

i.e. if he plays alot and has chances created for him he will score and grow further in confidence until he has become what we were expecting.

(incidently I think the presence of Jermain Defoe, a more dominat character, had a determental effect on Bent early on. Defoe seemed to be able to command the ball from Bent to the extent where Bent was looking to find him rarther then shooting)

bit harsh to say thats he's 'still shit'
he is slowly improving, as soon as we fully catches onto the way we play he will string some good performances together and bagging a few goals.

Bent is looking sharper and sharper for me. He has pace and power and he knows where the goal is. I've Watched him for Charlton a good few times and when he's on his game, he's very hard to defend against. Bent will come good for us, I'm sure of it as long as the boo boys lay of him.

I don't think Bent even needs to improve. He just needs a rise in confidence and find his form. The way he was playing for Charlton would be more than good enough for us, and I'm confident he'll be a success at Tottenham.

Just stop moaning about him and get behind him!

At the moment Bent just doesn't click with Berbatov like Keane does. I have watched it a few times now, when Bent runs left, Berba plays it to the right and vice versa.
You can see the frustration from Berbatov by the way he throws his hands around, Bent just looks like a told off kid when Berbatov does that.......

It took Keane until about february to click with Berbatov like he does now.

And to be honest, Keane hasn't looked too hot in the past month

all i saw were abridged highlights on tv3 here in ireland and the glaring perspective was a few chances for Bent that didnt result in goals..he may have played well in the 'non-highlight' parts of the game i missed BUT the bits they did show showed a striker with some good chances, and no goals...

im not going to agree with the original post b/c i rate Bent and only hope he gets a run of games for the rest of the season to prove he deserves to be here next year...BUT what i will say is that what i saw was an out and out goalscorer missing his chances...

This is ridiculous. Bent scored more premiership goals than Berba last season for a relegated team. Now obviously I'm not saying he's better or anywhere near as good as Berba, but at Charlton he was widely regarded as the most promising young English striker around. Get off the guys back because if you do he might just come good for us.

Stoof, you're good to say whatever you like - you know you'll always disarm me with your dancing bananas.

Nice lyrics, too!

Happy Friday, all!!

16m was a ridiculous price but he is a good goalscorer.

Peter Crouch. Went to Liverpool with a reputation and a price tag looming over his head. Took him aaaagggeess to get a goal. Now look at him. Love him or hate him, you can't deny he's a goal scorer. Granted, he's no Torres, but then Benty will never be Berbatov, and to compare them is foolish.

He will come good. Bit more match time with his team mates, bit more confidence and watch him fly.

Now's the time to give him that chance.
