I thought Bent looked good again today, and it would have been totally different had the linesmen been awake, his would have been the winner, also, Keane hasn't been playing very well recently so I believe Darren should start some games soon.

Defoe's return to goals, Kanoute's surge up the top rated strikers list in europe & Darren Bent's drout is just further proof that the issue is with OUR system and not the players imo.

We don't/can't adjust to when another striker is plaing. You will notice that when United play with Tevez/Rooney they play narrow and down the middle, when they play with Saha they play with width & through balls/balls over the top. We never do this, instead we play our 2 favourtie strikers and leave the 3rd/4th to rot & then expect them to be world beaters in 30 minutes.

The question is would you drop two favourite strikers that have 25 league goals between them and 41 in all competitions?

I'd say that's fupping crazy if you did. If one stops scoring for a while then drop him - but don't rock the boat if it's not sinking.

Yeah. Take that idioms, you've been Stoofed.

So yeah. :-D

Yea, I probably would in the hope of having 3 fresh strikers. I wouldn't call it dropping, I'd call it rotating & hopefully it'd allow the midfield to play in different ways to accomodate different strikers' attributes.

I'd say it's more of an insurance policy for when we do pick up inveitable injuries aswell.

If I was manager I'd always pick the team I thought has the best chance of winning. Which also means the best strike force.

Keane and Berbatov.

Well you say that, but if Bent had played more he may well have been more effective. I use van Nistelrooy as a case point, United fans thought fergie was 'fupping crazy' for dropping him and eventually selling him as he was their outlet for goals & had an obscenely good record. next season? they won the league. I think a healthy rotation of strikers is needed. You will find in all top teams that strikers are often rotated to keep them fresh. Bent has been pretty much worthless to us, and that's dangerous for when someone next twists their knee or gets an eduardo done to them.

Still feel angry for buying Bent then having to sell Defoe, i swear Defoe celebration against Villa was like a kick in the teeth

We signed Bent because we were confident that we'd sell Defoe last summer.

What specialist Swiss training was that, RSS? A month with Christian Gross?

Still Bent is great goal scorer like Defoe and he needs to play a lot if we want him to match same amount of goals like he scored for Charlton. So he obvious would need yto play regulary whole games, so we could expect him to score more than he's now scoring.

How about in the a couple of the remaining games, try a 5 man midfield of malbranque-huddlestone-jenas-zokora lennon with bent as a lone striker? flood him with balls to run on to and we might see a bit of the form he had when he was a charlton and ipswich?

It's a nice idea, but I don't think it's sustainable. I mean, we may get some success, but what is the point if it's not going to be vaiable on the long term?

We just need to adjust our approach slightly in the 4-4-2, like for example not trying to walk it in, or running out of steam as soon as we get to the 'D'

or we might concede more goal kicks than ever before in the history of English football

I dunno, i'd love to see him start putting them away but he seems so far out of tune with the rest of the side. When you've got 11+ players who all have some form of understanding with each other and one guy who seems to hear "left" when someone says "right", despite hours upon hours of training sessions and, in my opinion, enough outings to at least show there's some hope, i have to start questioning whether he's got it in him to perform under the pressure he's under.

If he was getting shots in, running across the box and loosing off the odd rifle shot, goals or not, he'd at least get a few more fans. At the moment his only trick is to make a flawlessly timed run to break the off-side trap, look up, and the ball is 15 yards away in the other bit of space...

He either needs to listen more or demand more.

Or, go away.

he does seem a bit distant during games! almost like he's day dreaming!
he sort of jogs alot without really stretching his legs and sprinting.

hope he comes good.

Enough outings to show some hope? He's had 9 starts and 9 sub appearances scattered over the season, with a lengthy spell of injury. That's a grand total of 831 minutes, or nine and a quarter games. Nevertheless, despite not playing very well (and on two or three occasions being downright poor) he's still contrived to score four goals, and that should have been five. I'd say that's not a bad return. Actually, it's as many as Defoe put away in his spell of ten full games when Keane was out in the middle of last season.

He also gets as high a percentage of shots on target as Berbatov, and puts one in two of the ones he gets on target away. Berbatov manages one in three. Maybe you've got the wrong bloke brandishing the banjo.

Unlike you to be so harsh on a player who's had limited and fragmented appearances to show what he can do.

I just keep reassuring myself that he has a role to play and was brought for a reason. He has to for 16m! hasn't he?

I'm not sure i agree with your matter-of-fact comments.

He is a lone striker & better at being a big fish in a small pond? when he signed for Charlton at the beginning of the 05/06 season he was neither, he paved his own way.

Not suited to ramos' system? we;ve hardly had a chance to judge yet, but recently he's looked like he's playing better, it's the midfield who are not supplying him, that's up to them, they should be able to create more than one type of goal.

He will have to be sold? no

Defoe, Bent, Mido & Kanoute all struggled at Spurs, i think when it's that consistent, we need to start having a look at our system rather than the players.
