Hard to judge any performance with the World Cup less than two weeks away. Players will prioritise that over a Carabao Cup game.

That’s why we should have started the likes of Gil, Japhet and Spence.

Feel for the fans that traveled to the game.

Conte only picked 3 that were guaranteed to go to the WC - Kane Perisic Hojberg. So not having that as an excuse

And then subbed them all off before 60

We've moved squad players into first team positions and wasted money on players that simply don't pass/move/defend/exploit space well at this level. We lack cultured players, Bentancur and Kulu showed us that last January.

What an embarrassment it's the kind of result that underlines there is trouble brewing within. Conte is probably on the brink of walking. I had a bad feeling about this one and so its been proven. When I saw the line-up I thought here we go with that so called defence.

What really was bad was not to see Spence even start and Conte's stubbornness plus assessments are not helping on the support side to those waiting in the wings. He's use to players who know how to win our players don't so effectively look to bring another curtain down on yet another manager it seems.

Looking forward to the World Cup being out the way so I can stop seeing this being used as an excuse. Plenty other players at other clubs who are going to the World Cup are putting in committed performances.

So I just message my brother the following and make for depressing reading (and this isn't me excusing Conte for not getting better performances out of some of our current players.)

Alderweireld - Left 2021
Vertonghen - Left 2020
Danny Rose - On loan from 2020 left the club after those loans
Kyle Walker - Left 2017
Christian Eriksen - Left 2020
Mousa Dembele - Left 2019

All of the above were core components of our relative success in recent times and I would happily argue that none of them have been adequately replaced.

Does anyone really trust the club to go out and find a keeper that can replace Lloris when he hangs up his gloves?

For to long we have relied on excellence of Kane and Sonny to see us scrap through matches.
The club promote backups and expect the manager and fans to believe they are superior replacements. Only when the level gets dire eg winks/Sissoko do they look to make changes.

Dier and Sanchez absolutely shocking again, and I’m not sure sessegnon has what it takes to be a top full back. He’s easily bullied and just doesn’t have much about him.
You could have said the exact same thing about Dier and Sanchez in 2018 when Poch was still the manager and it wouldn't have looked out of place at all.

What will it take for people to realize that we never adequately replaced Vertongen and Alderweireld and that's one of our biggest problems.

Conte asked for 2 CB in the summer and Levy gave him Lenglet on loan and jack shit. Conte isn't the problem here the players are.

Until we get rid of the passengers like Dier, Sanchez, Davies, and Emerson these problems will persist. It won't matter who the manager is.

Not sure players would think like that but agree we should have played Gil, Spence etc. it just seems wild to me that we played such a defensive team when we have gone behind every time using it. Surely, it’s the time to experiment because anything is better than a 3-5-2 featuring one attacking player. Utter madness. I think Conte is too obsessed with his system.

We have neared the end of a very chaotic schedule. It’s unsustainable and due to level of some of the players, Conte couldn’t rotate as much as he may have liked. Players are cooked and have switched off.

No surprise that Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham all lost.

How did we end up with so many ineffective players? I don't think there's a single Forest player that we would say gets in our first XI without argument, yet they were effective. When they had a decision to make invariably they made the right one. They could play in tight spaces without falling over the ball, and managed to defend cleanly.

We just seem so clumsy. Falling over, always getting in each others way, and more often than not making the wrong decision. We are so disjointed it's painful.

Conte is starting Emerson. He has 2 better players in that position. That’s not levy’s fault.

Game vs Leeds is set for Saturday and we'll need the players to do much better than they did today.
I think one of Conte's biggest flaws is his ability to manage 2 games per week. He can make some bad calls at times, mostly in midweek.

He quite rightly is prioritising the league (Leeds game) so it means he makes bad choices during the week. People often complain he takes ages to make subs but tonight he was quick to make them, which tells you something.

Having said that, I think it's worth mentioning that we played 6 CL games in just 8 weeks, and you normally get 12 weeks to play them. We played United (during CL) and West Ham (before CL) in other midweek games, whilst most of our players went off to International duty in one of the weeks too.

We will at least get extra rest before Boxing day and in January.

Time on the training pitch will be very crucial for Conte and the players.

When was the last week we had free to do that?

I wonder if the people who defend Conte with "his squad is not good enough" seriously think that Forest have a better squad than us?
The point is - We still have too many players who's lowest levels are below many of Forest players' best levels. So if the said players don't turn up we can still get beaten and outplayed. If those Forest players had played a poor or average game we'd have beaten them fairly comfortably. Regardless, signing better players reduces the likelihood of us getting outplayed by poorer teams. Not saying you can't lose these games, but we wouldn't be getting outplayed.

PEH has been more than amazing this season. Any drop in his performances is do to being overplayed and less about his actual ability or mentality.
PEH has had his moments, but he's not been amazing. He has a tendency to lose the ball, misplace passes and ball watch. He's a good squad player, but we should upgrade! Aimho!

Exactly. You can't polish a turd. Dier, Davies and Sanchez are floaters that need to be flushed by next summer :)

The stagnation of our squad has been such that we still have players starting regularly who really should have been gone over 2 seasons ago.

That's also not including players that we should never have bought in the first place (Emerson, Doherty, Sessegnon, Gil).

Probably just under half the squad by my count.

A lot of those players will be going or hoping to go to the WC. In less that a week

I don’t know how they can be expected to put a proper shift in for a league cup 3rd round

Professional or not, I wouldn’t be. With all the games anyway

Do think it’s poor of Conte not to mix things up more, guessing where Kane is concerned he hasn’t got much choice

The WC has ruined this season, sooner it’s all over the better.
