I'm sure it's just agent talk from the player's side but in the current market and with the gap in our squad that £50-52m release clause is looking quite interesting to me. Very versatile and talented player. Could easily become starting RWB for us and attacking cover for the front 3.

That would be a real show of ambition.

It's clear that we have no extra money to spend today. Always a convenient reason - like waiting until January for players that probably sign a new contract in 2 weeks.

Edit - context given in my post below. Paying for an unusually incendiary comment with negs, this is why I normally post in multiple paragraphs :ROFLMAO:

I actually don't think it's a financial reason per say, well at least in regards to transfer fees. We just got too many players on the books, and don't want any more that ain't truly special. Whether you think Carrasco is that is subjective. I like the look of the lad, but I'd be lying if I said I've seen him play much.

Carrasco makes a lot of sense, massive upgrade at RWB, quality cover for both Perisic and Kulu and a player comfortable with the ball. our right hand side with him, Romero and Kulu would be formidable. Having convinced myself he is just what we need, I confidently predict we won’t be in for him.

And where you getting that from? Would really appreciate a reply as well mate, because it's the last post I make today without one.

Not bashing your info at all mate. I'm sure its accurate, but always feels like the club is too willing to take the option to wait and not push the boat out now.

The reality is once the window closes and Zaniolo/Bastoni continue to play regularly for the club they likely get a bumper contract offer and stay, just like Lautaro last summer. Even if they continue to run the contract down the reduced price probably leads to one of the elite picking them up instead.

I'm not even melting down today, overall I'm happy with our window, just always feels like we leave ourselves 1-2 signings short and our window to truly compete is constantly shrinking.

I think the issues with outgoings have really dented our budget this window which is why we're being linked with loan deals.

I know you aren't "bashing the info" but what you've done instead is take my opinion (which I clearly stated was opinion) and projected that into something the club are actively doing.

But I reckon we were 5-6 short in June. So it's a miracle we're that close if I'm honest.

Such a huge huge upgrade on Royal. Massive statement of intent as will have arguably the two best full backs in the pl.

This is where I think people have lost track of reality a bit, its a MASSIVE overhaul, we made a great start and it cannot be expected to be fixed in 1 or 2 windows.

It is a shame we haven't got someone more creative in, but as we have seen this summer if you sign the wrong player it hugely impacts you further down the line.

Does seem as though having to settle for loans on our outgoings has affected us a little, we cannot possibly over commit and then stuck when these players come back from loan.

I think your opinion is very likely to be correct. There is plenty of merit to holding on for Conte's top targets, and Levy would certainly back the option that didn't include dropping a £50m cheque today like signing Carrasco would.

I just genuinely believe this is what will happen and the club gets taken on that ride by agents every time. The squad needs 1 or 2 more genuine options for this hectic season, last night was an example of that. West Ham brought on more subs than us last night. The 'bigger' clubs are supposed to be the ones doing that.

At some point the likes of Bastoni and Zaniolo were obviously looking viable.
If the reason they havent come to fruition is because their clubs made it too difficult or outright said they wouldnt sell then waiting until January, when things might look more favourable, makes absolute sense as opposed to moving on to someone we, or should I say Conte doesnt see improving the squad/ team.
It might not come off in January either, but it is worth waiting if thats what Conte wants

Yeah it has been very good in that aspect. I think the fact we got so much great work done early, and with CL money and the £150m injection (plus the ridiculous amounts other PL sides are spending) I was holding out hope we could fill even more gaps.

I've made my peace with LCB having to wait, but I think we are in major need of a 5th attacker and someone like Carrasco would also provide a potential RWB solution too.

But just taking a step back: think about this part of your sentence, and how nuts it is given Nuno was our manager this time last year.

Id love a Carrasco or say a Zaha but feel we will end up with Traore or James (or both?).

Im content wit the window but always felt we needed that extra one or two and yesterdays bench coupled with how as soon as we get one or two injuries we drop off slightly, shows that.

Look it’s not my money but given what we have at RWB and lack of cover at RWF (in the way Conte wants to play I.e. not really Moura), I say pay the release clause. Really could be the difference between top four and not and progressing in CL. Both of which would cover us overpaying by say £20m
