Yes we can argue it's not our money so why should we care. Well I'd like us to be sensible with our finances as opposed to stupid.
As for the stadium and finances etc, I think covid put us back a little.
Yes Gvardiol looks quality, he comes next season to the Premier league supposedly. The same league that Spurs have just signed the best two LWBs in Serie A, one of which will also join next season.
We can't sign all the top players in every position.

If he keeps Chelsea in the running for a PL title, CL spots, and an occasional trophy. Its probably a worthwhile investment.
(It also makes a Super League more likely, but that is for another thread.)
My point was made badly, the point is even if we were going in for him, at 90m? too rich for us. We cant compete with Chelsea. So we go for other targets.

What Chelsea and barca are doing seems to essentially be gambling on major future increase in value for the top top teams, and gambling to ensure they are at the table. And kind of feels like putting in enough cash to distort the market to such a degree you actually increase odds of success (essentially being a "market maker"..)

we will never be a big team while clubs are allowed to throw money around like this the top top talents will never be at spurs unless we get them before they break through and when we work that way we will only ever have a hand full of world class players at one time. You need 7 or 8 to win anything. Every time I think we are catching up with the money the other clubs go up another level with it... starting to get sick of football tbh.

When everyone was celebrating Chelsea’s potential demise a few months back it was just so obvious they were going to get an owner who chucks money at them once again. Amount they’re spending and willing to spend this summer is insane. They need to just scrap all this ffp or whatever it is now, all it does is punish smaller clubs when the big boys can just do whatever they want.

I know this is in jest, but the trouble is they would still happily go out and sign Bastoni too next summer. Thats the difference.
Thing is our total revenue should be nearly 4x higher this year than 10 years ago when the equivalent transfer would have been £20-30m so in that sense I don’t see this as crazy or in relation to where ticket prices etc have gone in recent years

We don’t even give these guys a chance though. Gil set to be loaned out again, Spence and Sarr can’t make the squad without a bunch of injuries. Will probably be the same for Udogie next season. I like all the signings but if we aren’t even gonna blood them what’s the actual point.
