People say we have to win something (and I agree) but Barca really need to win something or make a final at least for their own future now

Didn't they sell a percentage of their future tv income for €200m and gave it to Xavi to upgrade the squad?
yes :

June 30 (Reuters) - Barcelona have agreed to sell a 10% stake in their LaLiga TV rights for the next 25 years to US private equity group Sixth Street for 207.5 million euros ($215.84 million) as they look to improve their financial situation, the club announced on Thursday.

"We are activating economic levers and executing on our patient, sustainable, and efficient strategy to strengthen the club's financial footing," Barcelona president Joan Laporta said in a statement.

The US investment firm already has ties to Barcelona's rivals Real Madrid, after reaching a 360 million euros deal in May to develop and operate new businesses at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium for 20 years.

"Our team looks forward to a long-term partnership providing our flexible capital and deep sports sector expertise to support Barca as it continues to strengthen its organization and achieve its strategic objectives," Alan Waxman, Co-Founder and CEO of Sixth Street, said.

Granted Barcelona will still probably need to loan / sell players and i have no idea how this will effect them financially in the future as they sold part of their merchandise rights as well

BARCELONA, June 16 (Reuters) - Barcelona approved on Thursday the sale of a minority share of their licensing and merchandising division and the cession of up to 25% of income from their LaLiga TV rights in a bid to improve their financial situation.

The club board hopes this will enable them to finish the financial year without losses and increase their spending limit.

Club president Joan Laporta said they expect to sell up to 49.9% of retail operation Barcelona Licensing and Merchandising (BLM) for 200-300 million euros and a minimum of 200 million each 10% of the LaLiga TV rights for 25 years.

They sold their future last week.
They still need to pay their existing players and have wage bill restrictions. Buying Torres in Jan for £55m and then buying Rafhinha for £60m a few months later, whilst giving Dembele a new long term contract does not make sense. Nor does signing PEA and then signing Lewandowski. Nuts club.

Barca always find a way because they're a massive club. Their biggest challenge is the wage cap in Spain but they get around it every season. They'll always find a way to pay for top players because they always get financial deals. Lewandowski has now been confirmed and I wouldn't be surprised if they sign Kounde next.

Once upon a time, Bear Stearns was a massive financial firm. Then they threw caution to the wind and shit happed.

Shame about Barca because up until a few years ago I thought they were well run and despite the fact their wage bill was probably huge, I never thought they were that mad on transfers and high fees.

Now they just buy whoever for whatever amount and don’t seem bothered. Probably changed when they got Dembele. United are another example and it’s funny because since both club’s change in transfer policy, their success has massively depleted

Both clubs still produce beautiful players from their academy as well.

Finance and Marketing priorities are the drivers, Barca also have the added factor of presidential elections.

But it was the academy players for both clubs that made them. The Golden Generation for Man U and Messi, Xavi, Iniesta et al for Barca. Those players literally saved them hundreds of millions in transfer fees.

valenciayid on sevilla struggling to afford reguilon:
Remember when someone said swap deals are really difficult….

Seems sensible to discuss this in here, not sure there's any other Sevilla player we'd particularly be interested in, I must say I'd be surprised if we decide this is the way to go in terms of what defender we want but I'd be very happy to add him to the ranks as I rate him highly but that feels more like me as a fan wanting to load the squad with as many quality players as possible as I struggle to see how he'd fit in without he or Romero being played out of position.

Could Kounde really not play CCB at all? He would then be in the mix to play CCB or RCB in rotation with Dier and Romero. Bear in mind that Romero played CCB primarily for Atalanta (IIRC).

I think it’s important for people to remember that it’s only a bonus to be a left-footed LCB and not a necessity.

Rudiger, who was prob the best LCB in the world last year is right footed and also already played there for Conte.

So just because Kounde is right-footed, doesn’t mean he can’t play LCB.

Think that’s right. Romero also played LCB for Genoa.

Kounde is off to Barca or chelsea, this is a non starter
Is that really the case? If so then how would they struggle to afford Reggie once the deal goes through? Probably wishful thinking but maybe there’s more too it?

I presume they're weeks behind with their info, but ESPN here in Argentina have just said we're in for him and offering Reguilón or Lo Celso as part of the deal, in the build up to the Sevilla game.
