I know this is about Bergwijn but Crouch did so much more than just THAT goal. He was the foil for VDV, Keane, Defoe and Bale. He did a lot for us in his time here. He was a vital part of the team. The thing with Bergwijn is people quote his contribution against Leicester as a reason to keep him. It’s no different to Crouch’s goal against Man City that got us into the Champions League or Winks later winner against Fulham… we’ll be forever grateful for these contributions but they shouldn’t paper of the fact that 90% of the time they either didn’t turn up or weren’t good enough.
Look at Dier and Davies, they’re average to good players but they both seriously stepped up last season and put in some fantastic performances. They were consistent all season. Whereas our better players predominantly contributed week in week out. Bergwijn, Moura, Winks etc were more often than not a complete let down.
