I thought he was immense against Chelsea. He's effectively Pochettino's Mr Fix It and it's pretty obvious that there are few players in the squad that he trusts more than Eric Dier.

I love that back 3 combination, not only are they excellent individual defenders, but all three seem to have great communication and chemistry between each other and all three are comfortable on the ball and can play out from the back.

My other half did has been on top form this evening. This is what she did because I wasn't listening to her story about shoes, dresses or the girl who sits next to her at work and has got really fat.

Any suggestions as to an appropriate response?

This season I think he forgets how to play as a CDM. He plays badly every time as a CDM, especially with no dembele or wanyama alongside him. Much better in CB role now. Is is because wanyama is too good?

Wayama has been excellent for us, but Dier's distribution is far better. Walker's pace lets him get forward carrying the ball, but Trips needs someone who can hit him with a 30-harder. Dier gives us that.

Nail on the head. Wanamaya has been immense but Dier offers more of an attacking threat. Dier has to play in our first 11 but he is better in midfield. Nice dilemma for Poch to have

Tough one to call on the victor or dier debate...both are great. I feel as though dier is better on the ball but off the ball victor is better positionally and winning it back through tackles snd interceptions.

What if DIer and Wanyama switched positions? Wanyama did very well in defence against Man City when our backs were against the wall. He also played there often for Celtic. Not the right time to experiement though, but just a thought.

I do think we're going to run into problems with Eric. He'll know now that his best position is centre mid. He could be world class there, and other clubs will pay him more and build a midfield around him. Obviously he loves it here, but I wonder how long he will put up with being a utility player.

He's not really is he, he just happens to be a very good DMF and CB, I think his long term future is CB though.

Dier back in Mid and scores 2 goals. Wanyama is a beast but what do we do here.

I'm a massive fan of Dier and want him back in midfield.

Dier gives us a different passing style, and one that I think particularly suits Tripper (probably Davies, too). Wanyama can play it short and simple,, and Rose and Walker can get the ball deep and use their pace to beat players and get forward. Trips and Davies need to find space high up the pitch, off the ball, and hope that Dier hits them with a long ball.

I think all our players will have to come to terms with the fact that there aren't many out and out first choices in this squad, and that's how it is at all the bigger clubs. If they want to be a big fish in a small pond, then fair enough. If they want Champions League, and a shot at the title, they won't get it anywhere where they can be guaranteed starters.
