Out of interest, what kind of price tag would you slap on Dier if there were interest in him from, say, Bayern Munich? And if, you know, he fancied the move?

It's not that I want shot of him as such. It's just that an offer of £40m would get me listening.

Would have to be something completely ludicrous (£80m) to justify selling any of our starting X1. What would the point of £40m when Michael Keane is apparently going to cost £30m?

I think we have several players we could name our price on right now.

Don't forget English footballer tax! And Levy tax.....

If Stones went for £50m I'd expect at least that for Dier considering he has been better than Stones and they're roughly the same age.

Strenghtening a rival eh? Doubt it. Abroad, probably a different debate.

4 months older than Stones. Playing at what is currently a better and richer team than Everton, with (hopefully) CL revenue again next season. Has played CB and CM to great effect at a high level (inc. internationally) and can also turn out at RB if needed. 4.5 years left on his contract.

We'd definitely be getting a world record fee for a defender to let him go, and we'd probably jack it well above that too.

I think based on the Stones fee plus improved TV revenue he is more like a 60m buy. Young, English etc. Manc scum are trying the old tapping up via the media LOL. Fuck 'em.

You have to understand that I am merely thinking out loud here. A lot of people see Dier as a DM, but I don't. I am at a loss to understand how people see him as a top class DM. I think we need another central midfielder, one who is different to anything else we have. I don't think any of our central midfielders are creative enough.

A few people have mentioned Stones. Using his transfer fee as a benchmark, OK, £40m for Dier is not enough. But was Stones really worth that kind of money? Maybe if he had a coach who had a clue how to organize a defence? Nobody spends £80m for someone who is not a game-changer (which Dier is not) so I don't think that's a realistic price tag.

You don't need creative CM's in this day and age. Most of the best central midfielders in the world these days are not very creative, they are the kings of ball recovery and retention:

Dembele
Kante
Busquets
Vidal

(You will notice they play in teams which control the game, which we do)

There are some who are very creative though:

Kroos
Modric
Pjanic

(You will notice they play in counter attacking teams, which we are not)

Are Juventus a counter attacking team? If the are, they don't play with much pace!

Eric Dier is one of our most important players, he plays 3 positions for us every game and is comfortable at all three: CM, CB, RB. He is the lynchpin of our tactical diversity in games and if we sell him then we have 3 choices:

1. Sign David Alaba
2. Get Philip Lahm out of retirement
3. Give up

A lot of talk on here today about selling or the prospect of selling various first teamers. I personally don't think any of the first 15 or 16 players in the squad should even be contemplated for sale. It is imperative we keep this squad together and i am not sure any of them will seriously push for a move this summer with everything on the horizon here.

I like counter attacking. I just don't like it as a strategy for each and every game.

Why even think about selling ANY of our core squad players. We have about 14-15 players that we should not even consider selling, and Dier is one of those. The only thing our squad need is to get rid of players like Sissoko and Wimmer and replace em with players of the same quality as our core 14-15 players.

edit: Wimmer is even a decent players, but kinda obvious Poch doesn't rate him

It's impossible to put a sensible price on dier because the whole market is out of whack - it's basically the cost of a replacement which unless you have found another Dier like gem is going to cost a ridiculous amount and there will be a bedding in period

Because fans are impatient and never learn.

80 because you get two players for one. He isn't the best but I really like him and don't really like the thought of breaking up the team.

Anything lower can suck nuts or eggs or whatever
