Now 2 Newcastle players have come out saying they don't want to wear the kit because of religious beliefs.
Are they using 'religious beliefs' as it has more impact when in fact they really mean 'moral beliefs'?
Why do I say this? Newcastle were previously sponsored by Virgin Money, prior to that - Northern Rock. Both of whom charged interest to people who borrowed money, although at much more reasonable rates.
But - Islamic beliefs do not worry about how high the interest rate is. If there IS an interest rate of any level its frowned upon.
So, are these players just playing the religion card? To be honest, a hell of a lot of clubs sponsors would be frowned upon under Islamic beliefs. Beers, gambling, normal banks etc.
On a second note: I'm off to get myself an islamic mortgage. Interest free :-D
