Is the answer that women need lots more special provisions, mainly from men, to be equal, even though they are already totally equal, obviously?

Interesting topic, personally I think the 2012 games had little to no difference in how female athletes are perceived.

Sally Gunnell, Denise Lewis, Rebecca Adlington & Kelly Holmes have had as much attention and success previously as Jessica Ennis within GB.

The only difference in the last year has been increased media coverage of the women's football World Cup but the cynic in me still thinks that this is because BBC can't afford to cover live men's football anymore.

I watched most of the England games and the level on display was quite poor and similar to Maidstone Utd (my local team down in Conference South) it shouldn't be compared to the men's World Cup as it's completely different. We might as well say Ronaldo scored 48 lge goals for Real Mdrid last season but that's nothing cos little timmy down the road scored 88 for the under 10's last season...

Completed the survey. Can't say that I've added much of any note, but I guess it will boost the numbers.

I find this sudden emphasis on "women's" sport baffling. There have always been high profile women athletes, from Billie Jean King, to Jackie Joyner, to the aforementioned likes of Denise Lewis. And they were given equivalent coverage as any male athletes... because hey, it's just sport, whoever is competing.

Again, seems to be a cynical push by the likes of BBC and Sky, with their extraordinarily patronising Sportswomen show... live from the "sports cafe" of course... mostly because it seems the women are having more success than the men equivalent these days.

Ski Sunday seemed to push it beyond the pale earlier this year, with lots of 10 min interviews with an inspirational "girl" skier or snowboarder... complete with lots of slow-mo shots of them making cups of tea and going shopping, and other assorted "girly" things.
