I’m sorry but it’s a no brainier for Saliba. Imagine playing for this PE teacher

Jumping the gun massively but he resembles a young VVD to me in his playing style.

I thought the same when I watched the video of him. Looks a real talent, but I still think the deal with the goons is too far down the line and he’ll join them.

Seen reports Arsenal going in for Ruben Dias of Benfica. Looks promising for us to buy Saliba if those reports are true.
Can't see this being true. The player just signed an extension to his contract with a buyout clause of 88m. It was 56m.

Benfica aren't going to let him go cheap if he just re-signed. They will insist on the full amount.

I reckon having the french captain and two other french internationals in the team certainly helps also if you're hoping to make the squad.

There’s no way we haven’t spoken to him prior to stepping up our interest. This makes very little sense unless we know he’s interested.

They can't buy Saliba for 30m, Benfica wants release-clause for him. It was 60m and they want sign new contract with him.

Reflecting on this the following morning, if it's looking like Alderweireld could see out the remaining year of his deal at Spurs then having one of France's most highly-rated young defenders secured to join next summer does make sense. Vertonghen's deal is also up next summer.

My ideal scenario tbf. I think financially letting toby go and getting Saliba for 2 mill difference would make more sense.
I do find the lack of interest in Alderweireld for £25m bizarre despite his age. I can only think he's asking for astronomical wages and a long contract.

Exactly. Let’s be honest, Arsenal were probably the only club in for him at that price, but that’s not to say he wouldn’t prefer Spurs.

He’s definitely asking for astronomical wages. Last big contract of his career. He will never earn this sort of money again.

RMC is also the sports channel that holds all English premier league rights in France. Showing all the games - so I would say fairly reliable as a source
So...

As reliable as (checks who has the rights for the Premier League in the UK...) Sky Sports

In all likelihood, 19/20 will see the usual 6 clubs competing for 4 CL spots. Anything we can do to hobble one of those 6 during the transfer window has to be money well spent, especially the one that finished right behind us.

Salida's choice is:-
- be the first choice CB (in a couple of years) in a team which is a CL regular and challenging for titles
- join a team which is about to change manager (rumour is Ljungberg), and is likely to be scrapping for even a Europa League spot

Leicester will be in the mix, they’re in a lot better shape than arsenal

Alternatively:
- be 4th-6th choice CB unlikely to play regular football for the next season
- be an almost guaranteed starter in the PL and Europe and use that team as a stepping stone to a big club
