Just reading the SSN article about Zenit offering Arshavin a new contract, it said that we didnt up our offer by 3mil.

Does anyone think that we will live to regret that?

He is after all a quality quality player!

Kind of like the Torres saga, i think we all wish we did sign him now (i know he turned us down etc but its the same thing)!

I doubt it - he is a good player but after our other signings he wasn't a priority -

I'll wait till the window closes before I start declaring my regrets - but missing out on cuellar silvestre corluka milito may all be bigger misses - but as I say I'll wait till the window closes - who knows who we may yet buy

Seems to me that Zenit have effectively said 'You want a replacement for Robbie Keane? You've just got 19.5m for him so we'll take that for Arshavin'.

Why we are still haggling is anyone's guess, though I'd assume we're looking at the money we got for a 28 year old and are not willing to spunk it on a 27 year old with little sell on value who may be a bit of a gamble.

To me though, the prospect of not having a replacement for Keane whilst Berbatov is still up in the air is an even bigger gamble.

It's the constant reports on SSN of Arshavin 'not being our number one target' that is keeping me interested though.

Surely not having a replacement for Keane with Berbatov still up in the air is better than not having a replacement for Keane with Berbatov already gone because then we would not have a replacement for either.
I think Man U are sweating on this one more than us because we already have Berba and they will lose the title with the team they currently have.

I know he had a good European Chanpionship and one or two good games in the UEFA Cup, but the man is 27 and has a track record of only scoring 1 in 5 games.

At that rate he's not even half a replacement for Keane, never mind Berbatov.

If Ramos is any good he'll have Villa signed or an alternative young Spaniard that is capable of scoring in the Premier league on a cold winters day.

Paying twice over the odds for Arshavin is hardly what Comolli is employed to do.

Well, yeah, of course it is. Where did I say it wasn't?

Sorry mate, but I'm not sure if that was a dig or not.

I'd prefer we look at signing a striker (not another attacking midfielder) who can partner Bent.

I'm not sure we'll ever know what's going on with the Arshavin deal and it wouldn't surprise me if the saga continued until the end of the transfer window. There have been lots of reports of Zenit moving the goal posts and not being easy to deal with. Combine this with Levy hard negiotiating and it was always going to be a battle. I think one of the main disadvantages of signing Arshavin is that he has little or no sell on value and Levy would probably prefer to go for someone younger who would perform for us but increase or at least hold his value. Torres did fulfill this criteria but I'm not convinced he'd wanted to join us. Although I'd like to have seen him at the lane, we got Berbatov and he didn't turn out too badly.

Don't worry, Arshavin will be a Spurs player on September 1. He'll be withdrawn from the squad to face Man Usa on August 29.

I dont think this deal will be completed. Too often transfer sagas are public knowledge but the clever business is done on the quiet. Ramos is quoted as saying they are looking at targets and the window is still open. Much speculation is for paper selling and as Gilzeans Grandad pointed out to me yesterday its probable that the reporter gave Berbs that shirt and he fell for the set up.
Corluka rumours have a certain weight however.

A lot of this in the Arshavin transfer rumours thread of course but clearly both trying to call the other's bluff. And as I said in there I'm sure they're waving a big card with Robbie Keane £20m on it

I don't really see what all the fuss about Arshavin is about. Six months ago hardly any of us had heard of him. He had a good game for ZSP in the UEFA Cup final and a couple of good games in the Euros before going missing against Spain. He looks a decent player, but suffers from the "next-big-thing-hyped-out-of-all-proportion" syndrome.

Robbie Keane cost Liverpool nearly £20m because he's a proven Premiership goalscorer who has topped 20 goals a season for the last two years, and is his country's leading ever goalscorer. Arshavin would be a good buy for £8-10m but that's it.

still would like Arshavin at the lane, even if he is going through a torrid time. He is a class player. And I had been watching him for a long time before the Euro's. Danny however is another player to keep an eye on
