Martial not financially likely, as things stand. There is NO WAY we will spunk 80-90m on one player in this window!

I would agree. However, we have an asset in Toby that United want.

Toby + £20 million would be a suitable deal.

Haha with 6 days to go tottenham have realised some of the better players available wouldnt be cheap.who'd have thought it.
Lol, I don't even know why we bother starting negotiations so late. Also, so the players that are obviously established and played in the PL are going to be expensive; shock horror. Why aren't we scouting cheaper players with potential instead? Martial and Zaha both started off as potential before they where were they are now.

Looks like we wont even be spending 80-90 mill this window let alone on one player.

Surely he wont be that much if we part exchange Toby. Very odd situation.

Seems pretty clear that Utd are too scared to consider letting him go in case it's another Salah/KDB scenario.

Now Toby is close to returning from holiday we have more chance of finding out where Utd stand, it was easy for them to play this poker game when he wasn't in the country. I suspect they'll just pay up.

Martial for £80m or Sissoko, Lamela & Aurier for the same kind of dough.

Surely we are now at a stage where one sensational signing is better than 3 chancers. We have the squad, I think it's time to add a bit more class. I honestly can't see why a deal involving Toby + £30m-£40m can't be brokered it would give us so many class options as an attacking threat. Just my opinion though Herc, thanks as always for your info

As you will see from an earlier post I made today, I want us to go all out for Martial. I've wanted him more than any other player since Bale left because I honestly think he could be our version of Henry. This guy has all the tools to be a world beater.....

BUT.......

I cannot agree with the figures here. As much as I love Martial, he has not achieved anything major yet (on a purely personal level). We are talking potential. Toby on the other hand, in my opinion, is the best centre back in the league. Yes he had a bad, injury hit, season last year but his talent for reading the game doesn't just vanish. He is very similar to the legendary Paul McGrath in that his mind will get his body out of trouble over the next few years, and that's worst case scenario because he could be firing again this season as if nothing happened.

So bottom line is, age may come into the financials, but apart from that we are talking a supremely gifted attacker, but with much to prove, being swapped for one of the world's finest defenders plus 30-40 million? That's madness and I think Levy has a point in getting the best end of the deal.

P.s. You still better make it happen somehow you bald little fecker ;)

I agree but I also think Levy needs to think about what's best for the team now and long term.

Toby is the best defender in the league but he's also available for £25m next summer and seems to have treated either Pochettino or people within the club with a serious amount of disrespect so I'd move him on.

If he didn't have a £25m release clause my value of him would be higher but with Martial being a rarity in today's achieveable market for us and being somewhat attainable I think we use Toby's class as leverage on this one. If we don't ŵe probably get, if we are lucky twice what Danny Ings is worth in today's market which really undervalued Toby tremendously. Sadly our hands are tied with his clause and supposed attitude, we have Vertonghen, Sanchez & Foyth to cover him so we can manage to cover in the centreback department for 9 months hopefully and he probably opens the door for a swap that Man U would never consider without him being involved.

I think Daniels got a little carrot with him that could and should be bigger but for the clause kicking in and I think using him + enough cash to make Man U see that it's a good deal (whilst not putting us in silly boy jeopardy) could get us a real star. Martial's value will only increase in today's market and with him being 22 he'd not only be a great first team addition but a shrewd investment when the top level class can go for £130m-£150m these days. I saw we risk it for Anthony purely due to losing Toby in 12 months time regardless and because Martial has a genuinely high ceiling

Toby this and Toby that, Jan has been our best CB for a couple of seasons. Toby wants out and by all accounts he has crossed the line in more ways than one. When Stam had a falling out with Fergie, there was only going to be one outcome - adios. You can't let the tail wag the dog, if you do you become dependent on players like Adebayor, who performs when he feels like it,

Just like £70m is the new £30m, maybe 200 pages is the new 100 pages? Let’s keep going boys - just over 30 pages to fill!!

I really think we are talking the same language here because we both agree about most of what has got to happen. We both realise that Toby has got to be used as a bargaining chip and we both think Martial is going to be a game changer for Spurs.

But I still disagree about the 30-40 million part which means ironically one of us is playing Levy and one of us is Woodward here..........YOU BLINK FIRST!!! ?

We'll pay what we think a player is worth and occasionally a little bit more, that's all there is to it. Trying to make sense of today's football market is impossible. If we want the player enough we'll eventually pay the fee. Yes even little Dan.

Surely it would be Toby + £x ?

The way the window has gone, my onion is that the stadium is biting bloody hard, harder than we thought and until we sell, or sort naming rights, there is very little money there.
Of course you're right.
That £150 m was plainly a bollocks number.
Makes you wonder what levy said to Poch to make him sign that contract...

He will go to Chelsea, if any one.

It still baffles me that in the world of football, we haven't been able to find any players that would improve our first 11.

i dont think its about finding ...more about paying inflated prices ... let's face it, regardless of what they say... the stadium has something to do with this
