Levy should begin talks with Defoe tomorrow, then not return his calls on Saturday morning. Just in case...

You mean apart from City, Liverpool, United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton?

Didn't realise we weren't a top 6 team.

If someone has the stats for how many goals from open play Defoe has vs Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and City (post oil takeover) for Spurs, I'd love to see them.

I bet it's less than 1 in 6 games.

Erm what? He didn't have too many chances to score against us. He did actually score against us for Pompey in the 2 points from 8 saga, if that counts.

Off the top of my head he scored a wonder goal against Arsenal in the 5-4 game, one against Liverpool in a 1-1 draw at home and one in the 4-0 win, a pen against Chelsea, at least one up at Goodison and quite possibly a few at home, two against City when we beat them 3-0 at home and one in the 2-3 defeat up there, one at home to United in a 1-3 home defeat.

It's not amazing but then I am not sure of the other strikers in that era, if they (Kanoute, Keane, Berbatov, Pav, Crouch, Mido and VDV) were much better. The fact is our record against the very top teams (not including really Everton or City pre 2012) wasn't great, partly because by definition those teams don't lose or concede many. But to be fair I am sure it was a throwaway comment, but it's not really true that he doesn't score against top six teams.

When quoting other forums try to keep an eye on the Potty mouths. The "C" word wont get caught if its copy and pasted from another forum.

That's odd. I can't see what the difference is, the software should still be able to detect it and censor it surely. It's still text, it's not like it's a photo of some text.

Indeed, he is our 5th highest goal scorer ( our highest in Europe) with 143 goals yet some supporters are stupid enough to slag him off. :(

Defoe is a player I will always consider to be spurs... Loved it when he came back from Portsmouth in his flat cap ready to save us!!

Before that Man U game where he scored that volley/bicycle goal I told myself not to get drawn into trying to wind up my Man U supporting mates over text. But 3 mins and Defoe scores, that tactic went out the window. We went on to lose 3-1 IIRC.

That was the perfect example of the Defoe shift and shoot coming to fruition. Lovely goal but my God every one that hit the first defender was infuriating!

erm...there was this:

That was my first Spurs v Man U game. "Ha ha, this is going to be easy" I thought...

2-1 I think. Anderson and Giggs? Rooney was unplayable.

From "SunderMad"

"All of our games seem to be more important than the one before but I get the feeling that this is a very important game.

When the eternal optimist like me starts to doubt and question Poyet it tells me that the crossroads is approaching quickly and if belief is to be restored in any form then a good performance is needed in this game.

Gus says well done for the teams second half efforts when going down to 10 men, no Gus, not well done at all, a dire first half full off basic errors and lack of effort was followed by more huff and puff but no real show of a group of players capable of turning the tide.

If we simply had a group incapable of performing I could accept it more but, for all their shortcomings I have seen performances, they can do better so why dont we see it on a consistent basis.

The players and the manager will be under the spotlight on Saturday and like Liverpool last weekend Spurs are a good team but very much a beatable team, we must at least compete.

A lot depends on the injury situation but I hope and pray that both right backs are fit and one starts, I pray even harder that Cattermole is back.

My heart will sink if I see

PANTILIMON
VERGINI..OSHEA..BROWN..VAN ANNHOLT
CATTERMOLE
JOHNSON..LARSSON..GOMEZ..WICKHAM
FLETCHER

Before we even look at formation I dont want to see the names, Vergini, Gomez or Wickham. Vergini is not fit, Gomez is not capable and Wickham is not trying.

I do want to see the name Giacchorrini but please not on the wing, lets play our players in their best positions.

Win, lose or draw is fine although win would be good, performance and effort is a must."

"typical Sunderland could go there and win!!!!!! dont hold ya breath though."

"Been to Spurs 3 times and each time been beaten by the odd goal so not holding out much hope for this one. As you say though win lose or draw although important are secondary to a good performance fail to produce that and it could well be bye bye Gus. It is the inconsistency that is pissing everyone off at the minute got a nasty feeling we will be bottom by Saturday night so again no improvement from last season, or the season before or the season before that etc. etc. etc."

"It seems Catts is a big doubt and we dont know about Rodwell, if both are out and Bridcutt suspended, what team now?"

"Having thought about it and looked at what Gus likes I think we will set on on Saturday, if fit, with..

PANTILIMON
JONES....OSHEA....BROWN...VAN AANHOLT
CATTERMOLE
JOHNSON..LARSSON..GIACCHORINI..WICKHAM
DEFOE

That will be the shape and it could be Gomez or Rodwell for Giachorrini, I hop not.

The change will come in movement with Wickham, Johnson and Giacchorini taking turns in supporting Defoe.

High balls will be aimed at Wickham and more over the top and to feet should be seen.

But hey, wtf do I know.."

"We are under no pressure for this match so if we lose so be it. If we sneak a draw or somehow get the win its a massive bonus. Personally think beating Burnley is more important than this weekends."
