He's got a point though, not about it being acceptable banter, but about our fans being just as fucking bad. The stuff about Wenger, Campbell and Adebayor particularly. I don't think any of those were acceptable.
Yep.

West Ham have to take this seriously for various reasons, but a key one is they are desperate, absolutely desperate to get the OS.

Now politicians will not want to see the lovey dovey ain't it great Olympic atmosphere and heritage defiled by hammers fans with their charming repertoire of songs and gestures.

This could cost them untold millions, hopefully.

We've had our revenge for the day of the norovirus several times on them, but if they lost the OS that would be the sweetest biggest revenge of all.

This is true and the whole porn twins and "Do us a favour love" stategy is based on stiffing the tax payer over the OS.

I have been at work today and didn't hear the irritating Jewish Spammer Moose on Talkshite's view of all this?

These are the same fans who sang "I'd rather be a Paki than a Jew" about 5/6 yrs ago. Was anything done about that at the time? I forget myself but the footage was as clear as day. Charmless. Them and the chavs have always been like that.

5/6 Years ago, though inexcusable wasn't just after Suarez& JT had been done for racism.
It is a different and welcome change of climate now.

5 or 6 yrs hasn't changed society one iota. Those chants were fucking disgraceful back then and my friends who weren't into football thought they were disgusting. This isn't in light of social problems either. These are football specific issues we're dealing with here. The last bastion of the herd/tribal mentality. And the only reason the football authorities (and only in a few countries, the majority still don't even see what the problem is) are starting to clamp down on this is, imo, due to the financial ramifications they would suffer otherwise. Money is king and at least it might do some good for once in this game.

All these trite football people talking about how football can change society. Er no, football changes when society has had enough of the fucking bullshit surrounding football and aspects of its fan culture.

We cant do much about other clubs - but its time we sorted our own behaviour out.

We are by no means any better than those we now complain about.

STOP SINGING THESE ABUSIVE CHANTS. Its bloody stupid.

You got it mate, I don't believe for one minute the owners would have pumped the money the money they have into the Hammers but for the thought they could a stadium at a knock down price when you consider the fantstic infrastructure that has been built for it.

I also can't stand that guy Moose, one of the many reasons I haven't listened to Talksport for years now.

Oh and I use the Y word but that has nothing to do with it contrary to what a certain group of barristers may believe.

Just seen Peter Herbert on the news, what an utterly loathesome self publicist. Can we sing derogatory songs about him or would that be inappropriate ? :)

As long as "derogatory" = witty and non abusive or racist. The 'gentleman' in question deserves all he gets and with both barrels.

I bet he's an Arse fan.

It really is amazing how mnay of them are ****s. I actually do this thing every sat and sunday when i pick up people in my cab and they ask for scores etc of the games. Every time somebody asks me and they seem fairly obnoxious or arrogant, i'm not kidding but maybe 8 times out of ten they are a gooner. I know there are some gooners who are normal but it's pretty amzing how many times i'm right.

I do the same but instead of arrogant its when they are black. They have a massive black fan base, im guessing its something to do with the amount of african ze franais players they've had. Gooners dont massivly bother me, usually quite middle class chaps.

I've had three in the last week or so brag about the scoreline of the NLD and each time i've said, you were losing until Spurs went down to ten men after 15 mins. All three quickly changed the subject, well one literally just stopped talking to me and started fussing over his kid and missus to avoid responding.

Wankers.

They been singing those songs as long as i can remember,i may not agreed with them but we live in a free society.
We dont hold a moral high ground with our own Repertoire of songs.

No we don't, we live in a society with a huge amount of laws and regulations that we must follow.

No one is talking about morals here, racism is a criminal offence.

I think the 1950's just called and wants you back there ;)

5 or 6 yrs hasn't changed society one iota.

That's not true, society can change dramatical in that period of time - the most obvious example is the US post 9/11.

What has happened in the last 5 or 6 years is that there has been a greater clamping down on racism within football, be it at a player or fan level.

The recent incidents with Terry and Ferdinand as well as Suarez and Clattenburg just make it a 'hot' issue right now.

I would like to see our house in order first and foremost... lead by example.

I cringe whenever I see kids on TV swearing and getting just as rowdy as the other fans at a match... think of the kids!!! No seriously do, because we seem to be teaching them that this sort of behaviour is acceptable. Football is not changing society it is stuck in the past and it is the society of football that needs changing.

My wife will not let me take my son to a football match (rugby however...) and frankly, I do not blame her.

I refuse to use the Y word as frankly I just don't see the point... for me the best way to fight back is to ignore the ignorant chants at games as fans (not authorities who should monitor). We have removed it from away fans repetoire, so there is no longer any more need to hold onto the word. WE need to move on, WE need to show that we are above all the rubbish and not stay mired in the past just because we think we have owned the right to use it in a defensive manner. I don't subscribe to punishments for its usage or anything like that, but I do feel it is an irrelevance that is now attracting attention and our own use of it is turning detrimental, so why not move on?

As far as I am concerned we are Tottenham, we are Spurs, we are AVB's blue and white army... everyone else can sing what they want about us because I am above it.
