Yep, I'm amazed that they're not falling over themselves to get us to share the Olympic stadium, despite the history between us. If we were to share I'd prefer that but that's only down to location and capacity because the design and function is a joke!

I'm not surprised - I guess they've realised that they need to try to remove the smell of success from the stadium before the Spammers move in?

I have been following the olympic stadium story very closely and am very interested in it.

The one thing I just dont get is the size of the thing. I was very lucky to get tickets for some events during the olympics so have experienced this first hand.

The thing is huge!!!! I have looked at the plans and its bigger than Wembley (as a footprint) and much bigger than the Emirates.

Its also basically a circle shape.

Yet the capacity will be just 52,000 apparently.

I have seen mock up plans with the teporary seating over the running track etc but still.

Cant see it working based on the huge footprint they have to work in.

They will have the biggest stadium "area" in European football.

If they open up a load of fast food outlets around it and offer free match tickets with, say, two boxes of chicken and chips, they could fill it.

It's a national scandal the cost of the Olympic stadium but it really isn't well enough documented in the press. Heads should roll for it starting off with the Mayor.

I think the blame should be at Seb Coe's feet - always praised but had no workable plans for after the Olympics. The stadium should have been the easiest sell and to be so against football - when to all it was clearly the easiest (and proven to be the only) option. The site could have been used straight away after and been called the "Olympic stadium" and been a flagship stadium in the premier league giving it a very high profile.

The trouble is, when the bloody thing was being built and during the games, if you said anything rational like that, you just got shouted down by middle class luvvies.

well that's what you got with new labour, Tony Blur and red Ken. Unfortunately all those are no longer in power....... But I'm sure they'll be back soon as people have short memories and fall for the anything but Tory rhetoric.

Anyone know if 33,000 sq ft of lounges and 4,000 sq ft of private boxes is alot?

I was hoping that there would be very little corporate income, so they'd get nowhere near our matchday income and therefore stay nice and irrelevant...

Here's my back-of-an-envelope calculation for WHL (which is currently inadequate for all the prawn sandwiches we want to shift):

The pitch at WHL is around 328 ft long and we have 3 tiers of corporate boxes (2 along the West Stand and 1 where the shelf should be). That's 984 ft.

Plus I think 1 tier along the Paxton – that’s another 220ft, totalling 1,204.

If a box is about 15ft deep, that’s a total area of 18,060 sqft.

Assuming those are the only corporate boxes in the Olympic stadium, 4,000 sqft worth is bugger-all. :D

I'd agree, it's bugger all. Obviously it depends how big the corporate boxes are but 4,000 sqft is likely to be between 20 to 30 boxes in total. Probably nearer 20! Wembley has 166 and the Emirates 150.

Out of curiosity who pays for all these alterations to Seb Coes "legacy" ?
There ought to be a law stating that anyone voting through government-funded stadia will have to personally cover 1% of any future costs that exceed the original budget. Have a feeling they'd suddenly be less inclined to misuse government funds.

A thought has crossed my mind - do West Ham actually still own their ground? Wasn't it sold and rented back to them sometime in the 90's, or does my memory deceive me? It regularly does, so no shame if it did it again, really.

Either way, they are becoming tenants at the 'lympic stadium, they won't technically own the ground, so i imagine the bill will be footed by the owners. On some level that makes sense, like to make it fit for purpose then yeah, fair enough, but you wouldn't expect more than that, would you? Moving into a new house you can perhaps expect a whitewash, or redecorating, but you can't expect the landlord to put up all your posters, make your bed and shit for you as well.

...and I'd be amongst the first in the queue to kick it like a tin can in the street. Unfortunately someone will just pick it up and affix it to the Prime Minister Model and people will still vote for the cretin.
