Tottenham kick off their Europa League Group K campaign with a home clash with Norwegian side Tromso on Thursday night (8.05pm).
Spurs reached the quarter-finals of the competition last season and they will be looking to improve on that this term.
Andre Villas-Boas' side have started the Premier League season well with three wins from four games, but the Portuguese is expected to make a number of changes to his side for the Europa League.
Wingers Aaron Lennon (foot) and Nacer Chadli (hip) are both ruled out through injury, while midfielder Etienne Capoue is sidelined with an ankle problem.
Jermain Defoe could be in line for a rare start, but Emmanuel Adebayor is not in the first-team plans of Villas-Boas and continues to train with the development squad.
Romanian defender Vlad Chiriches could also make his debut Tottenham after winning his work permit.
Tromso only reached the group stages of the Europa League after Besiktas - who beat them in qualifying - were kicked out of the competition for their part in match-fixing scandal in Turkey.
Defender Hans Norybe is set to miss out for the Norwegians after suffering a broken nose in last weekend's win over Rosenborg.
Tromso coach Agnar Christensen is sweating on the fitness of midfielder Magnus Andersen as he battles with an ankle injury, while Ruben Kristiansen and Jaroslaw Fojut should be fit to play after recovering from illness.

 (y)

I outed them!

Is Vlad even in the squad? If we didn't know when his WP was coming through it would have risky to risk a squad place with a player who was ineligible.

During the work permit hearing, apparently Lawyers of Chelsea put a bid in for him. It's expected that Vlad will chose Chelsea over Spurs due to 'footballing reasons'

Work Permits are issued by the country the applicant will be working in not the country they are from.

If someone from the UK wanted to work in Australia, they need a work permit from the Australian Government not the British Government,
Yes, but at some stage they must contact the other country for information. For example check they haven't been convicted of a sexual offence or drugs, or even to confirm date off birth our tax information.

I can't imagine Romanian beauracracy being particularly quick.

We had all transfer window to sign him. Should have done it sooner.

And what were we to do if the selling club wanted him to play in a CL qualification game before they sold him to qualify?

It is easy to sit here and say, we should have signed him sooner, but there were things in the way of this.

Could've done it sooner, if his old team's owner wasn't in jail.. There were circumstances that didn't allow us to get it done sooner, and we wanted it done sooner. Just the bloke who was in jail had to have his say before the deal was agreed.

As I understand it, the rom government demand that the taxes are paid up in full by each individual involved with the application - spurs supply rom gov with price paid to his club/agent/owner/ representative etc etc. A demand for tax payment is issued to each and when payments have been made by all concerned they agree to make him cleared to apply, spurs side takes just under week, Romanian side....when they can be arsed

Why would there be any Romanian tax involved in what is essentially just an application to the UK Border Agency? If I apply for a work permit to Australia/Malaysia (which I have), the only thing the UK are involved in is providing a ciminal records check, which is normally done by a third party agency anyway.

it seems that the tax position applies from rom gov because he is giving up his residency and employment status over there, so before he can apply to become a Employed in the UK etc he has to be clear of any debt owed to his nation - he can come here to work on a limited employment, I think one year without declaring intention to remain but I would imagine his contract is enough to put a hold on his residency in Romania .

I am by no means an expert but purely my understanding of the citizenship and tax law freely available

When I got my WP in NZ, the NZ government never once contacted the UK government. The applicant has to supply their own police record as part of the application. date of birth etc is confirmed by the passport.
