According to Marca...

HAVE TRAVELLED TO THE PRINCIPALITY TO FINALISE THEIR DEALS
Valdés and Falcao - Monaco bound

05/27/2013
AS Monaco continues to explode onto the market. Having confirmed the arrival of Colombian James Rodríguez and Joao Moutinho just a few days ago, the Principality's club is now about to close further deals to secure the services of Radamel Falcao and Víctor Valdés.
According to several sources close to the Monaco-based club, speaking to news agency Agence France Press, the Atlético forward and Barça goalkeeper travelled to Monaco on Monday to hammer out the final details of their contracts.
The French club's second big signing would once again be around the €70 million mark. Falcao would depart Atlético de Madrid, depositing his €60 million buy-out clause fee in the 'Rojiblanco' coffers in the process, while Valdés, whose contract with Barcelona ends next season, will go for a figure close to €10 million. According to AFP, both arrived in the Principality on Monday and will undergo medical examinations on Tuesday.
These two new signings add to the Porto players, Joao Moutinho and James Rodríguez, already on-board, for whom Monaco shelled out €70 million. Russian millionaire, Dmitry Rybolovlev, will thereby have invested €140 million of the €200 million budget he pledged on taking over the club.
With the entire summer still ahead, Monaco looks set to be a force to be reckoned with on its return to Ligue 1. Currently, the Principality's team has positioned itself as the biggest mover and shaker on the market.

The report underestimates Rybolovlev. Millionaire.. try billionaire. $9.1bn.

It's a lot of money to challenge for the title, this season at least. Good for the league overall to have someone to rival PSG in terms of spending. I wonder how Platini and his utopian idea for a level playing field, he was so against the English teams before.

“I want to create a situation where every team has a chance of winning and there is a more level playing field. But in England teams win either with morality or without it. We want transparency and financial fair play, but sometimes you do not have that in England” (2/6/09)

“But it’s ridiculous. I don’t need to say more. How one guy can cost £150m is ridiculous. From a football point of view, social point of view and every point of view.” (2/6/09) His thoughts regarding Manchester City’s pursuit of Kaka.

BUT

“They had Di Stefano and Puskas in the past, and as Ronaldo is considered one of the best or the best player in the world it’s normal. If the club has the finances they can do it, if they don’t have the money they can’t.” (6/28/08) What he said regarding Real Madrid’s 120 million pound attempt to buy Christiano Ronald. Apparently that’s not ridiculous.

It's always good to have competition rather than only one big giant winning the title every year. Though spending big money sign a few "big names", still a lot to work on e.g. squad balance, quality subs (squad depth), magician to put the player together, etc.

Regarding "Fair Paly"... what I only want to say is Fairness doesn't mean Equity, and European Football is apparently a world of capitalism...

Definitely, there are also knock on effects for the other clubs. If Monaco and PSG are signing world stars then the domestic stars get pushed out, either to other French league clubs (players that wouldn't necessarily have gone to these teams before) or to Newcastle.

:D That's a grim fate. I think the French Foreign Legion would be my preferred option. There's 100% less Pardew there.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Monaco who actually came in with the biggest offer for Bale.

A couple of interesting articles on the Monaco situation here:

http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/...ng-to-deal-with-the-coming-as-monaco-problem/

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2013/may/28/monaco-100m-transfers-ligue-1-ban

The French league changed it's rules in March to restrict entry to Ligue 1 to clubs whose headquarters is located in France for tax purposes (ie not Monaco). The Ligue 1 clubs were already miffed enough at being told that their players would be subject to a 75% tax rate, and then tax-free billionaires Monaco came looming on the horizon...

Monaco are refusing to move their headquarters to France, and are taking the league to the Supreme Court (or the French equivalent) to get the ban overturned - but this could take months, and there is no guarantee they will be successful. In the meantime, the other clubs are threatening to boycott any games in Monaco if they are admitted, preferring instead to forfeit the matches 3-0.

I'm sure some sort of resolution will be found which will allow Monaco to compete in Ligue 1, but it's all looking a bit messy at the moment.
