Utilising Gilberto

Just a quick one, where do we think Gilberto is going to be utilised? My understanding is he is a left back but can play left mid. Does anyone know what his role was with Hertha? See I would have thought he was brought in to go straight into defence with his experience value, to help patch things up there.

LB, LM and CM at Hertha.

Expect him to be LM in front of Lee v Man U if he plays. Gilberto and Lee v Ronaldo might just work in our favour.

i would expect to see him slot in at LB, he's been playing better there as of late.

More like Gilberto with Malbranque in front against Man U in my opinion.

Once Bale gets back i'm pretty sure we'll see Bale playing in front of him though.

Wherever he plays I'd like to see him boot the shit out of Ronaldo. Make the little ponce roll around on the floor a few times. Would be good for Ronaldo to go steaming down the wing, and Gilberto body-check him into the East Stand.

Yeah and a convenient red card and three match ban to go with it

Just the time for it!

I've been to a few brazil friendlies and was always impressed with this guy. Its a shame there is such a wealth of talent in Brazil or he would have got his shot earlier. Remember he has maxwell, maicon (can play left) and some other young guy whos looking a bit sharp to compete with. The Brazilian talent vehicle is incredible. Likes attacking and whipping balls into the box. Quick feet (there whole team also does) and never looks out of place going forward. At the back the years of european footie has steadied him. I'm really glad we finally have a Brazilian in our team.

for Man Utd in will probably be Gilberto @ LB and Steeeeed @ LM. Dream pairing would be him LB and Bale LM as those two will cause defence's problems all day down the flank and can cover each others position too

I don't think that is too far from what will happen.

Ramos never goes for the defensive option, and we're at home. Therefore Steed will play with Gilberto behind I would have thought.

I'm not convinced Ramos rates Lee, and so I reckon he'll be sacrificed.

Unless of course Steed is rested after his tired performance tuther day..? It's a real shame Bale is out but just imagine how exciting it'll be when he returns!

Or perhaps Gunter'll play LB, or maybe even O'Hara... There's never a dull moment with Ramos at the helm!

Chucking 3 new signings and King together as our defence for the first time against Man U might be calamitous or it might be brilliant. I wanna see it, though.

Reckon Gilberto will play left-back behind Steed as Ramos seems to not be inclined to use Lee.

Think said somewhere Ramos feels Lee ok defensively but likes his full-backs to be able to provide width which Lee doesn't do so much having to cut back onto his right peg.

Can't remember where I saw that though...

It will be interesting to see who plays at the back on Saturday. Reckon Hutton and Gilberto will defo play and probably King and Woodgate if both fit but there was also talk Chimbo may be played centre back when we first were going in for Hutton.

I think Ramos rates Lee as the useful player he is. Not a first choice LB, but not a bad back-up. Lee, despite what many perversely proclaim (perverse because it's an over-compensation for the shocking under-rating of some) is nothing more than a solid, dependable Premiership player. Long-term our left will be Bale and a LM, short-term it's Gilberto and Malbranque. Next season it may even be Gilberto and Bale. Lee will get a game whenever the first choices are injured.

Me too. About the one thing you can predict about Juande's line-ups is that they're totally unpredictable.

Really exciting signing - I hope he will go straight into the team vs Man Utd tomorrow.

Class defender. Juande really does know what he wants and I can only foresee Spurs becoming a major threat to the top clubs within a few seasons.

It's exciting watching us go from strength to strength, so much improvement in such a short time.
