We do.

I've posted a link to the competition regulations in two other threads asking the same question.

UEFA.com said:
Unless the UEFA Cup title-holder qualifies for the UEFA Champions League through its domestic championship, it will be guaranteed a place in the first round of the UEFA Cup. If the title-holder does qualify for the UEFA Cup through its domestic competitions, the number of places to which its national association is entitled in the UEFA Cup does not change. If the UEFA Cup title-holder does not qualify for either the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Cup through its domestic competitions, its participation in the UEFA Cup will not be at the expense of the contingent of its association.

So that's a yes, then.

We absolutely do. After the Liverpool thing, it was stated, that a winner of a European Cup should be able to defend the title. There is, however, amaximum of participants per nation, which means that a country can max have 4 teams in each European competition.

It is a definite yes. just read the regulations on UEFA.COM

Other way round, ever.

The Liverpool win changed the rules to ALLOW it.

so if we win the UEFA cup and defend it the following season, will the 6th position club lose out or will it be a no go for the intertoto route???

England have three places anyway.
Our win (if we don't qualify otherwise) would make it four places, which is the supposed maximum.

But I still think another club would get a chance through Intertoto as it's technically an independent competition. We also have fair play of course...

Winners go back regardless of their finish. Doesn't take away another spot for another team

As others have said.

If you win and qualify via the league anyway, then no extra place.

If you win but don't get in through the league, you get in with an additional place. It doesn't take a place from anywhere else.

To confirm, UEFA cup winners get a spot and it's at the expense of some 10th rate latvian side, not a team from the winners country. That's only if they haven't qualified normally, if they have, then said latvians can play

Do people think we have a better chance at beating Chelski or Bayern Munich? I reckon Chelsea have the better team. Would we want to play Munich over 2 legs or in the final?
