We have a icon the mods can use to give people an "informal" warning. We used it during the transfer window. It made little difference.
No, I think you're giving people not enough credit.

Is there any reason why you can't block someone from posting in the ITK thread but allow them to still view it? Is it because you'd have to apply it every day?
I made a big bold/coloured post on the final day saying that we'd allow twitter from real media outlets and gave examples, etc.
First twitter in the thread was from 'Swansea Insider".
People are stupid.
We tried it (we can technically do that). The next day they were just as bad again and hadn't learnt their lesson at all. And I'm not talking 1 or 2 people.
The ITK Discussion Thread is for discussing ITK.
I'm not sure how we make it any simpler than that?
Of course discussing our general transfer policy isn't allowed in there. Nor fomations/tactics. Noe who you think we should sign. Nor the other million things that aren't discussing the ITK.
It's not that the rules are confusing or hidden. It's that they're ignored. Do we change the rules to something else because people ignore them as they are?
That's exactly what I had in mind, top work. This will make it so much easier to follow the itk if people are having to catch-up after a few hours away from the thread and hopefully it should mean less ITK gets missed from the RO, except the explicitly stated not-for-RO kind.Ok, one suggestion was quite easy to implement.
Can you all please take a look and give me some feedback on it.

Any post by Hercules in the transfer forums should now be highlighted in a slightly different colour.
As others have said, you seem to have this problem every single window. Blaming your users for being stupid doesn't seem like a constructive way of solving the issue to me.
There is clearly a desire from a vast number of the sites users for a general transfer discussion thread. So much so that many people (every day of the window) will break the rules and risk losing access by essentially using the ITK discussion thread for this purpose.
Every other football website I've been on has had a general transfer thread, people generally want to have fluid conversations about Spurs in the transfer market.
That's why the kind of off topic talk in the ITK thread keeps happening. It's not through stupidity it's through a lack of the user bases needs being met.
Building on this suggestion, we do have a General Non-Spurs Transfer thread here:

Perhaps the creation a General Spurs Transfer Thread, explicitly NOT for ITK, and placed in this directory, might make the purpose of the daily ITK thread clearer and create a space for the kind of posts and discussions that breach the rules there.
I think it is inconsistently applied though - id much rather see it go slightly off topic around general transfers than read x amount of posts about people's toilet habits. The ITK Discussion Thread is for discussing ITK.

Do you really think people would be capable of keeping the ITK to the ITK thread and the non-ITK discussion to the other thread?
I can tell you now all that a second thread will achieve (especially a more relaxed one) is that EVERYTHING is posted in there instead.
