Mistake keeping Chadli on.

To my mind, I think he will be very average. Always the easy ball left, right.

Strolls around, no urgency.

Not overly impressed but admit early days.

THe problem with Townsend is that he is trying too hard, worried about being dropped.

To be fair Chadli looked good the first half, he disappeared in the second. Townsend wasn't at his best either, but to be fair I thought in the first half the 2 wingers were the better players. For all that muscle we had no cohesion or creativity in the middle.

I thought we should of played Townsend LW and got him to cross in more.

Chadli disappointed me because he looks to have a very good cross but he didnt put enough balls in

I think Townsend was a bit greedy today and seemed to be playing for himself rather than the team

Don't get me wrong he looked good as an individual but he was always looking to score a long range screamer and never looking for team mates ahead of him - also he left Walker exposed at the back and never tracked back to offer support defensively

Townsend is rapidly turning into a greedy fucker, looking forward to some Arron Lennon service when he's back in contention

Tbh I was surprised it wasn't Chadli who made way for Lamela and that we didn't put Townsend on the left.

I'm not gonna slag Chadli off in any way, he just continues to not greatly impress me. I thought he started well mind, looked good in the first 20 minutes or so but then that position just seemed a bit anonymous.

Think AVB got it wrong. I was saying during the game, bring, move him to the left bringing on Lamela for Chadli. Out of Nacer and Andros I felt the latter was more capable of pulling something out of the bag.

Very early and all that but the biggest problem for me is the fact that he doesn't look like there are that many goals in him. When we signed him that was meant to be what made him a Lennon upgrade but he doesn't look like he'll get double figures.Yet.

Lamela > *

He definitely did something to change the game when he came on.

I must be the only person who thought he had a good game. He held the ball up well. Reminds me of Dembele actually. Needs to build confidence.

There doesn't seem to have been a clear plan in buying and replacing players.

Chadli can't seriously be our Bale replacement but he is the only one AVB puts there. Townsend and Lamela are both natural left sided players (until Roma moved Lamela more centrally) but we play them both on the right. Lennon seems to have been disgarded completely although when he switched places with Bale he was better than Chadli has been.

It should be

Left 1: Lamela
Left 2: Townsend

Right 1: Lennon
Right 2: ? Townsend again?

AVB obviously loves Chadli. He's been a solid performer but not mind-blowing or match-turning.

I agree. He had some nice flicks, it's his third game in a new league, with a team that is new to each other.
he'll get it and when he does he be a very useful player

Most of what I saw of Lamela at Roma was him on the right wing and cutting in like an inverted winger

Lamela doesn't play on the left bro. Right or central would be fine though. Realistically the right is his wheelhouse. We could play Townsend left though. I like Chadli too though.

What? He played centrally at River Plate. Roma moved him out right to accommodate Totti.

Chadli = team player

Townsend = shoot on sight.

Chadli and coco to play every time.

I like Townsend but I think it's clear he wants to play out on the right just so that he can score goals. His shooting is not in Bale's league to even try that and he's not getting his head up enough to see runners. He's not conducive to team play. If we put a better left back in behind Chadli to make those bursting runs forward we could see a good left side there.

I like his composure. I think what he needs is a full back that runs beyond him or he needs to stay wide.
