Manchester City And Tottenham Hotspur Reveal New York Dates As Part Of US Tour Schedule

Only one club will be competing in the Champions League next season, but it seems both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City will be heading to New York as part of their preparations for the new campaign.

Having already revealed their intention to tour the United States, the two Premier League clubs announced on Wednesday that as part of their respective pre-season tours they will take part in a four-day tournament from July 21 to 25 in the Big Apple with hosts New York Red Bulls and Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon.

Both sides are scheduled to play two games as part of the 'New York Football Challenge', which will all take place at Red Bull Arena.

Despite uncertainty over his long-term future at Eastlands, Roberto Mancini is looking forward to the games as perfect preparation for the 2010-11 season.

“We have big ambitions for the Premier League next season, and this tournament will give us the perfect opportunity to prepare for our season with some highly competitive games, enthusiastic supporters and world class facilities," Mancini said on his club's official website.

“It will be fantastic for us to visit the United States, and especially for us to visit New York during our tour of the East Coast."

Exact details of the dates of individual fixtures will be released "in due course", according to the club.

SAFE!!!

I'm so there!

Book early for a cheap plane ticket, stay with family in NYC for free :) , get to watch the Spurs play & enjoy Manhattan in the summertime before it gets too unbearably hot & humid in August!

WICKED!

Ooh that may be a trip for me to make too. Could make it a road trip and drive for around 12 hours or fly it in just a couple of hours

America will never embrace soccer. Quit trying.

I don't know I think it is changing, slowly. Though if you compare the pre-1994 taste and awareness of football to now, there may be a huge difference. A fair few of my American mates like it, I took my mate to two games this season and he is a Yid. He called me during the Arsenal game wowing at Rose's goal and then when they did a re-run of the Chelsea game when he thought it was live. I text back saying we won and Bale ruined JT.

When we were at the boozer and Bendtner scored a late winner and everyone went mad he was like 'I love football' and he is, clearly, no Goon.

I think once Americans see that
a) it's not a women's sport, exclusively
b) it's certainly not a middle, upper class sport,

things may change.

Maybe if we could also show a bit of the Premier League pace out there, they might enjoy it. Some of the end to end action is a bit like basketball at times, minus the number of goals (not including Wigan). They might enjoy the likes of Bale and Lennon out there. But we're never going to play flat out in these games.

My main concern is that they're only friendlies, and I can't see them making a lot of difference. It's great for the fans who already follow footy over there, as they get to watch their team play. But i'm not sure it's going to win new fans over. Play an important game out there and it might be a different story.

As the Spanish influence gets bigger and bigger over here so will footie.

I read somewhere that footie was the most played sport among young kids now however as they get older and into high school/college they switch over to traditional US sports.

I'm suppose to be flying to Baton Rouge early August but now I might have to go earlier and via New York.

America is embracing soccer. Sure their league blows but there's more PL & CL on then ever before. This is a good sign!

Hope Spurs make it out west!!!

I'd make a sizeable bet that USA will be world champions before any African or Asian country.

First of all, baloney!

This country will be Hispanic by 2050. Football will compete with NFL to be king.

The fact is that the combination of the MFL, MLS and various overseas leagues would show that it has found that niche that puts it well beyond anything other than NFL, College Football and Nascar, Hockey in Canada and Baseball in Boston/LA/NY/Chicago, as it is.

Second, who cares

It's not about being embraced by every toothless hick and hippie douche bag. It's about finding a significant niche withing a massive country that loves sport as much as it does oil and wars.

As more people come to the sport, the teams that come over do themselves no disfavor by visiting. It's why Arsenal and Liverpool are behind Chelsea and United in fans in the US. All four have won things or been on the cusp, but Chelsea and United come over every once so often and get those interested, even more so.

If we could actually follow up 4th with a visit, I could actually talk to people without hearing

1) Spurs....the basketball team?

2) Totten-HAM

3) THE Spurs

I would like that very much.

And I would love to see them without having to go to the Wembley Cup being that I can only travel frivolously (read sans wife) during the time when Spurs are usually in pre-season.
