Tottenham set for £60million summer transfer scrap for Leicester playmaker James Maddison

He has 8 goals and 4 assists in the league this season. I don't think he's as bad as people in this thread are making out.

He's unlikely to be the player Leicester choose to sell in order to obtain funds but he has 2 years left on his contract this summer. So if he doesn't want to sign a new contract then this summer is the time for them to start thinking about cashing in.
He's not a bad player, just a bit of a twat and I'm not sure he has the mentality to fit in with what Conte's building.
When you look at the characters of Deki, Cuti and Benta, they're completely different to Maddison.
Quiet and unassuming off the field, total professionals on it, ready to give everything for the team above their own personal glory.

For the money quoted, there's much better to be had out there.

Hasn't he made it clear in the past that he hates us?

Arsenal player written all over him.
He said something silly when he was a teenager. About gareth bale I think. Can't remember off the top of my head, something about a monkey and Jack Wiltshire being better. (Than Bale, not the monkey) He's been hated ever since.

I'm glad social media didn't exist to immortalise my teenage stupidity....,

Good player though. But not at 60m.

Yeah no.

Not at that price, not at this time.

I think three or four years ago we'd have done well to get him, but I don't feel he fits into the club's ethos of essentially not being a dick. His returns aren't bad really, but I'm not on-board with this one (if there's any truth to it at all).

Agree.

Not saying it was an option but the time to buy was when he went to Leicester. If he was available to us then, he'd have had a season settling in then took over the playmaker role from then. £20m was a fair price.

But now his price is at a premium and he isn't at the level to justify such a high fee. Plus we can likely get better.

Watching Brentford reinforces I would rather just have Chris Eriksen'son-sen back

His passing range is just silly

He knows Conte, the players and club.

Slot him right in

Nonsense. Let the Goons have in.

We should take Christian Eriksen back on a free. He's hit heights Maddison can only dream of.

Think we did try for him but he wanted first team football and was a bit pissy about our interest if memory serves me right.

I mean he is home grown. I rate him, but I don't know exactly what we need him for. Unless we are moving to a midfield 3 or something. 60m is too much for someone who is likely to be an 'option' rather than regularly pushing for a start.

The Monkey managed to stay fitter than Jack ever could

I don’t see where he fits in the system above all else, Conte doesn’t really do creative midfielders.

The creativity in Conte sides often comes from the full backs and I doubt Maddison can or wants to be converted into that.

The 5 sub rule will allow for major tactical changes as well as injury subs. For instance, if we're chasing a game, Conte could easily switch to 433 and bring on an attacking midfielder in place of a CB. Maddison would fit that role pretty well. Could also turn that strategy on it's head if we were trying to see a game out. I can see why Conte would want him (even though he's a bit of a tit), and of course, the HG aspect is a huge +.

This article is from April yet it’s a bit strange how nothing has changed in regards to him or even Leicester and their transfer business. It reads like we need to make sales then we will go for him and then Leicester can do their business.

I wonder if that is still the case?

Yep. It was shown yesterday that half Leicester's first team is out of contract next summer. Most of the rest are out of contract the following summer.

Maddison is just about the only player they have with any real value.

But like you say, we'll surely only buy if we sell a few players.

it says SET and SUMMER. So effectively we are where they said we would be. Ready to go with a bid soonish.

I read through the comments and got really annoyed with one. Then I noticed it was one of mine saying we should resign Eriksen not Maddison as he'd hit heights the Leicester man could only dream of.
