Tottenham are ready to revive their interest in Yevhen Konoplyanka with a January bid for the Ukrainian winger.
The 25-year-old is likely to leave his club Dnipro in the mid-season window and is available for around £5million as his contract expires next summer.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has indicated he is keen on Konoplyanka, who has also attracted interest from Liverpool and Inter Milan.
Pochettino believes the left-sided player will fit into his system and chairman Daniel Levy see the price tag as good value for money.
Konoplyanka is thought to prefer a move to the Premier League rather than Serie A and has been a Spurs target since Andre Villas-Boas’s time as manager

I can see this happening. Offers something a bit different to Chadli and would allow us to move on one (or even both) of Lennon and Townsend.

Just don't see the point, really. We need someone who can cross the ball consistently and accurately, it's the only way Soldado will do anything. Konoplyanka prefers to come in inside.

As do just about any wingers these days, but Kono is very ambidextrous and is very good at crossing. I've no idea what you've watched of him, but he was far more selfish in those matches against us in particular than he usually is. I've no doubt he, as any person would in such a situation, attempted to put his skill on display a bit more aggressively since he knew big league (namely Prem) eyes would be on those matches.

I of course would be delighted to see us pursue this option. I think he's a marvelous player. If we want a quality player that offers something entirely different to our other options for a good price, we could hardly do better.

However, it is the mirror :shifty:

Vs another offer or in general?
Another offer. I do think that he'd surely take us over Dnipro, but he's good enough to get other offers of course. Though he'd have more game time with us than say Liverpool with all their players. United perhaps thinking of him? Or perhaps another league. Who knows.

If we look at the big five leagues, I find it hard to believe he would deliberately choose to go anywhere that would have him in Spain, Italy, or France; and especially over us as an option. This leaves England and Germany. His agent last summer said there was interest from Germany, and I've no doubt this is true, but again I don't see any of the teams that he would choose over us offering him starting positions. Maybe if Gladbach holds their run of form and secures likely CL come January (entirely possible with how the Bundesliga is butchering each other this season), but that'd be putting him in four months after making another acquisition at the position.

Leaving only England, and sides who could guarantee premium playing time that he would find desirable, I could see Everton (don't think it likely, they've spent quite a bit already recently and only just bought McGeady for the position last January) and Man U. My guess is van Gaal would rather hold out for Depay if given the opportunity, if he decides he even needs to address his LW position.

So really, I can't see him going anywhere but Spurs tbh if he goes in January. I think he probably will go if he gets an offer, as Dnipro will for once not on that income and likely make steps to speed up the smoothness of the deal.

This would be surprising. Firstly, his contract is supposedly complex and that isn't our club's forte.... and then you buy a player from the outposts of Europe midway through a season and expect him to settle straight away, when the team is already adjusting to a new style and chopping/changing from game to game.

Ticks all the boxes bar Levy seemingly being unable to deal with this type of selling club.

Honestly, for once I don't think it'd be that stunning of a move.

Complex contract - True, but Dnipro's oil connoisseur owner won't let him go for free in the summer. If he gets an offer and refuses a contract extension, they'll likely push through the move. So if the deal is cheap, and we offer soon enough, it's possible. That's the key though, if we offer soon enough.

Settling - I think it's become more and more apparent we can't expect any of our players to immediately settle, and that they'll all need time. It's rather clear we're not likely to make a push for fourth this year, but what is clear is that we need to start building as soon as possible and if the sooner we can get such a player in to settle and help build to establish Poch's future plans, the better.

There are apparently a few question marks over his attitude and willingness to do the drudge work but there can be little doubt about his ability. He is a class above any of our current outfield players and at £5M an absolute steal. I'd love to see him in a Spurs shirt but the ITKs have pooh-poohed our interest in him recently so this might just be lazy journalism.

Unless there's been anything more recent, I've only seen the ones from this summer. Many things have changed between now and then (for example Chadli, who plays the same position, whose form in light of his interview during the break in which he cited Poch's original lack of interest in him), and will change between now and January.

That having been said, it is still more than likely just lazy journalism. I don't think we've ever seen a journo/tabloid correctly call one of our transfer moves this far in advance, and especially not since it seems the club has tightened talk surrounding transfers quite a bit the last few years.

Could be backup option if we don't get j rod but as someone one else mention I would give some of the youth players a chance. We brought in average players in the last few years who are no better than the youth players we have coming through and they are blocking their progress to the 1st squad

Yes, but many of these youth who could potentially punch through do not play this position. The only one who has the potential to help us soon is Pritchard, and I don't think he's quite of the quality yet to push us on. I think we need an immediate attacker upgrade/addition, and Pritch himself needs this full season in the Championship for his own development and confidence.

I totally agree with that but Konoplyanka is far from average. I think we need fewer incomings but higher quality. That way the youth get a chance to break through. Too many of our current squad were bought with an eye on a future profit rather than their ability to improve the 1st team.

I was thinking of Townsend and Pritchard. But with chadli lamela eriksen Lennon paulinho Townsend already here I would like us to move Lennon and paulinho on and replace with Pritchard.
I have no idea if Pritchard is ready or not but when he is or anyone else good enough is coming through I don't want their progress stop by our average bloated squad.
If this Ukraine guy is a top player and could make an impact with us, great but if he's not I'd rather stick with what we have

Well I certainly can agree with that. I wouldn't call Kono a "top player" per se, but he's certainly of the quality such that he'd be an improvement and an immediate contributor. He also provides pace and aggression that we're just simply lacking atm in attacking positions. Have three creative attackers who are each excellent passers, one of which is himself a decent finisher, but no one with sheering pace who can feed off these creative passers. Pritch looks to be quality, but from what I've seen of him he appears to be more similar to our passers rather than someone who can physically create something from nothing or feed off the passing of others.
