Your obvious mistake here, glaring it has to be said, is the bringing of cold facts to the table. I mean, did you not realise that a) this is a forum, which means that b) people think that any crap is acceptable on the basis of the allowance of opinion? Next, you'll be trying to add logic to this insane recipe and expect people not to just pursue their opinions aimlessly!;)

Whilst he isn't a world beater, Lamela definitely has a place in the squad. Someone mentioned that he actually brings more defensively as a forward and I totally agree, which is why he is extremely useful when going away to the big sides. Against Juventus his aggressive pressing was one the catalysts for our dominant performance. However, for games like today where that isn't as important, I think we get more joy out of using Son and in the future, Moura.
And that may be why he didn't start.

I think in terms of final third passing , Lamela is better than Dele Ali in most of the cases. Just like Ali, Lamela makes lot of flicks here and there and those flicks rarely comes off but I still think lamela is better than ali in terms of final pass. Remember 2015/16 season, the match against United or the match against city? Lamela was absolutely devastating in both of those matches.

I think we have an incredible talented squad of players strong throughout.
Some might be better than others and some might have weaknesses in certain areas.
But this is the best tottenham team/squad/manager i've ever seen.

Focus on the positive not the negative.

Poch appears to have positioned Lamella in direct competition with Son who in many peoples eyes (me included) is one of our players of the season so far.

Personally I think Lamella is more effective in the Alli role (collecting the ball in tight areas and creating chaos) that the Son role (picking the ball up wide and running at players).

It’s great to have so many options but starting to look like in the big games Poch prefers Lamellas intensity over Sons creativity

I think he is and absolutely our best passer in the box. The tight passes direction, speed of thought, and weight of pass, there is no equal. However I would t say he is our best passer overall.

How anyone can say he isn't our best final third passer, or at least second best, clearly just has something against him as this is one of his best attributes, eye for a pass, lovely technique and immense desire. When he came back from injury he created a goal for Kane within a minute of being on the pitch, a few games ago, straight off the bench and lofts a lovely through ball to Dele who misses a one on one. The amount of chances he creates that don't get converted are very high. If he played in the middle of AMs for a season, he would hit 15 assists a year. I have no doubt about it.

The way he played against Rochdale, he gets into lovely awkward positions in the middle of the park, and his movement and pass to Son was lovely technique. Haters, will just ignore this.

Am i saying he should start, probably not, but since Juventus game i don't think Eriksen has been firing on all cylinders (his biggest issue, being so talented, he doesn't hit the real highs consistently enough for me, yes i'm being harsh but with the way he played against Juventus i want to see that more regularly from him) and Dele was pretty average the whole second half yesterday, he's unpredictable so you never know what will happen, but i do get really annoyed when thr ball is played into his feet and he gives away possession easily 50% of the time being very casual, this needs to improve. I just feel at 70 minutes in at the latest, Poch should have gone with Lamela in the middle and Lucas out wide, with Son the other side (taking off Dele and Erisken is a real issue for him, even when they aren't really doing much). That's an exciting 3 especially with the opposition tiring, it could be a deadly weapon as the season comes to an end which i really hope he uses more.

I'm not saying Lamela is god and should walk into the starting 11, but as a Tottenham fan if he struggle to see his weight of pass or creativity, then we clearly watch a different game and a different player.

Separate note, loving how Lucas seems to have quickly adapted, lovely touch, directness and football brain. Looks an absolute steal.

Excellent, controlled, performance. Dominated from start to finish without ever having to get out of second gear.
No poor performances and good to see Aurier returning to form with Son the obvious MotM.
Moura came on when the game was finished but still managed to look very lively.

This. Lamela should never play in son role. Lamela will be best if he plays Alli's role. Lamela has the ability to get same number of assists as De bryune or hazard but yes he won't score as much as these two. But in our team, I think lamela is the best final third passer among all others.

I think I saw Sissoko pull out some silky skills on MOTD last night.

You did, on the right hand side, popped the ball over the advancing players head and drove on to kick off an attack.

He seems to be gradually improving and looks a lot more confident. Pleased for the guy.

Yes that first assist after being away to Kane was gorgeous. No one else in our team would or could have played that move.

In some respects, and I'll probably get shot down for this but I'm not a man to care; Lamela has a higher ceiling than Eriksen in the middle (potentially). Staying fit is obviously crucial, but when Eriksen is out injured or having a quiet game, I would like Lamela to be tried in replacement. Although there is the possibility of them playing together, I fell the weakness if you could call it that is they are both a little one paced. This is why both struggle when out wide, that burst or acceleration is not required as much in the middle.

Agree on Lucas, I've wanted him for ages after it seemed he may lose his spot at psg. Could be massive in our run in.

Lamela is a strange one. He has the skill of a freestyle artist but is technically limited. He simply cannot use his right foot, his first touch is poor and he does not have tactical awareness to compensate for these limitations (like a Ryan Giggs). He frustratingly almost inevitably loses the ball in key attacking areas.

He is strangely almost more beneficial defensively - full of aggressive running and tackling, covering significant ground off the ball and provides fairly decent circulation in deep positions - which is why Poch puts him on when he wants to increase intensity. Useful in particular games where we already have creative outlets. Frustrating in games where we are looking for additional creativity and ball retention.

Lucas Moura is a significant upgrade. Wonderful attacking creative touch and movement, good finishing ability and running. Really looking forward to see him completely settled in and playing regularly. Dan Levy got us a great deal there.
I agree lamely is a strange one - hard to categorise. I love him for his intensity. In the thick of a quickly developing move he can play a sublime pass. Against a very good team he might just be the one to put one of our goal scorers through,

To be fair, he'd run himself into the ground again, and fresh legs helped. Son's work rate is superb.
I agree. I think its part of the deal with Son. He is asked to play at full tilt for 60 - 70 minutes. He is very effective...and he also runs the legs off the defenders marking him. Then he gets substituted, may be after scoring a goal or two, and certainly having tired out the oppositions right back - It works!
