When Erik Lamela scored his outrageous rabona against Asteras Tripolis in 2014, Mauricio Pochettino sat expressionless in the dugout.

Fails to mention the mahoosive catch 22.
He doesn't have a long contract.
Will we offer a player that missed half his current one through injury another one?
I'm not sure.
Will we let him stay until this one ends?
I'm not sure.

Lamela was so hungry and up for it before his hip problem. If he can get back to those levels of fitness and desire - we will have one hell of a player in the squad.
His absence has ironically allowed players like Son & Winks to get more game time which has been a good thing - to get him back would be brilliant - Come on Erik!!

Factually inaccurate, and subjectively questionable.

From the article: "The first season was disappointing, the second much better. His third, the most recent campaign, was basically non-existent."

Wrong. For starters, he has been here for four seasons. The first one was disappointing, the second was OK, but the third - in my opinion - was brilliant. He was an instrumental part of a superb team that season - if we can get him back at that level for this coming season, I'd be delighted.

Lamela has played just eighty five games since he joined us in 2013, a very poor return. For much of that time he has been injured, or suffering from the effects of one.

For me the possibility of carrying an injury prone player which is a fact, does not make sense in what will be our biggest campaigns in many a year.

Secondly even if he returns fit i can't see him getting in front of Son, Eriksen, or Dele and i would think that we can likely add Barkley to that list and i wouldn't think he's want to be a bench warmer for long.
