He is so much more than a free kick taker, people who call him a match of the day player, don’t actually watch full games of football. He’s exactly the player we should be looking at. The same way as Carrick or Modric was, he is a player who just looks so comfortable and has so much time on the ball

We must be watching a different player.

A good mate of mine is a Saints fan so I watch a lot more of their game than I normally would.

I don’t agree fully with your analysis. He is a good player but free kicks aside he does come up short of top 6 quality.

I think he is a Carrick/Modric player he doesn’t do anything fancy but he can set the tone of a game. Honestly if we had him, Madison and Bentancur as a midfield 3 yes we might be open but it would sure as shit be entertaining.

I didn't say I don't rate him, but I don't think he's anywhere near what you think he is. Take his set pieces out which are world class btw, and he's another steady 6-7 out of ten premier league CM for me. We have a set piece taker now, 2 if you include Porro, and he's not better than what we already have as far as his normal game is concerned.

Everyone is entitled to their view but there’s no way he’s at Carrick or Modric level.

He doesn’t dictate games or control the pace the way they do either. I think that comparison is way off.

He’s better as a more advanced midfielder in a 3 than playing deeper and dictating.

I’m not saying he is their level but he is the same type of player. Like he won’t be appreciated unless ur watching a full game. He’s always willing to recieve the ball, always makes himself available. It’s somthing we have lacked for years, we have to many players willing to hide. Sorry if I didn’t make myself clear, I just think we need more players like him.

I don’t agree that he is the same kind of player. Saints had injuries in the deeper midfield positions, fully strength and they’d definitely have played him in the more advanced position, where he is better.
