Dare I mention the prospect of Chelsea winning the CL again..............

Surely not, but they were easily the worse team left in the last 8 before and managed to fluke their way to win it, so I will be hoping they get knocked out ASAP as we don't want that hanging over us again.

It wouldn't make a difference under the new rules. However, if we finished 4th and Liverpool (or United, providing they finish outside the Top 4) won the EL, and Chelsea won the CL, then we'd be screwed over again.

Man Utd won and it seems to have spread doom and gloom because they are still only two points below us but think about it, a month ago we were neck and neck with Liverpool, Palace and West Ham and behind Utd.,
As it stands Liverpool and Palace are gone as serious contenders, West Ham look unlikely and United ar below us, I understand the ifs buts and maybes but it seems like the pressure is getting to some of us, come on guys this is the fun part, enjoy it.
Good points. Could also mention that the long awaited Chelsea revival (muted throughout the season) hasn't happened and time is running out for them big time. Will be happy to see them beat Arsenal though!

Difference was back then they could still defend. Not the case anymore.

next 6 games are massive: - these are not in fixture order but just split between home and away games

Arsenil play: Chelsea (H) Southampton (H) Leicester (H) Swansea (H) and Bournemouth (A) man utd (A).........potential for 2 of our top 4 rivals to lose points

Liecester play: Stoke (H) Liverpool (H) Norwich (H) West Brom (H) and Man City (A) Arsenal (A)........you would think they would drop points to city and arse and be ok in their home fixtures

City play: Sunderland (H) Leicester (H) Spurs (H) Liverpool (H) W.ham (A) Newcastle (A)........some tricky games for them coming up, but again a possibility of our rivals losing points plus us potentially losing points too

Spurs Play: Watford (H) Swansea (H) Palace (A) Norwich (A) City (A) Wham (A)......4 out of 6 away - might benefit us as hopefully the teams do not park the bus, but again some tricky away games including a london derby

United play: Soton (H) Stoke (H) Arse (H) Watford (H) Chelski (A) Sunderland (A).......a mixed bag of fixtures, if they pull their finger out though they could pick up a fair few points

Wham play: City (H) Villa (H) Sunderland (H) Spurs (H) Soton (A) Norwich (A)........their 2 toughest games are at home, other than that they could pick up maximum points from the other 4

Arse, City, United and Spurs all have European games squeezed in between these fixtures also.......if we can remain in the top 4 after these games above i will be happy
Results of collective opposition:
Arsenal: 47-41-44

Leicester: 56-33-43

City: 49-41-42

Spurs: 50-33-49

United: 49-32-51

Don't care about West Ham.

I'm not sure where else to post this, so I guess as it regards to our final season push I'll put it out there. I know a lot of people are concerned by burn out and I'm just wondering if towards the end of the season we will see a shift where Bentaleb, Mason, Chadli and Son begin starting games for us as they will pretty much be damn near fresh considering the lack of games they've played.

Good point mate. It'll be interesting to see how it unfolds.

I like your thinking, but among the things I've learned about Poch: He hates rotating without really unrefutable proof that it is needed.

It's a good point but IMO 3 of those are not playing due to lack of form and other isn't playing due to lack of fitness so I'm not convinced that there will be much impact. But there is still time for them to up their game in cups and they are not the only squad members

Yes we have a good chance of finishing in the top 4 although I think we will finish 5th.However this could be the season where we missed the oportunity to take the title by droping silly points and to many draws simply by not bringing in support for Kane.Another good striker could have made a big difference and again Levy didn't see the big picture. Now Poch is saying if we get somebody in Ok but we don't really need any body he is happy with what we have.

This season the title is there for the taking as it hasn't been this open for years but next season will be a different story. All the top clubs will strengthen in a big way and it could be years before we have another chance like this one.We have some very good young players that show potential but we are a good way off from being a consistant top 4 side. We all know we should have strengthen when we finished 4th and made the last 8 of the CL but again we didn't.Then we wasted the Bale money with second rate players but at all those times the top 4 sides were strong and would have been hard to finish above them. This season is a different story although none of us saw it coming but a bit of creativity in the transfer market and the title would have been ours. We might have had to wait another 10 or 20 years for the next one but we would have had this one.
We still could win it this year but I think we all know we will drop some silly points on the run in that will cost us. If we manage to get in a Remy or Berahino and take some of the pressure off Harry then who knows but to me it's a sad opportunity missed.

If we could get as close to 9 points from the next 3 as possible, in all honesty 9 should be a realistic target I think we could widen the gap over United to 6 or more points. They have tough games against Southapton, Stoke and Chelsea. I honestly think we can finish higher than 4th, but we can't drop any more sloppy points, if we had of won against Newcaslte and Leicester, which we really should have we would be sitting top. We need more urgency in our play right from the kick off for the rest of the season.

We're due a purple patch from a few players and hopefully we can keep the Moose fit and add to his goal tally, he could be a massive player over the next few seasons if he sticks to what ever training regime he's on ATM.

Where is this money going to come from? We have just spent £50m on the groundworks for the new stadium and secured £350m in finance for it to go forward.
We were looking at paying £25m for berahino over 5 years. Not a lump sum.
Unless we sell townsend and fazio there doesn't look to be any money in the kitty.

I think next season will be just as open. And the next. Big clubs are not so big now the TV money is so huge. You can only field eleven players. These are not original thoughts BTW. But I say this to counter desperation and encourage the longer view.

I was going to post something similar compared to the days of United's dominance, with a few dabs of Arsenal thrown in and then either the emergence or Chelsea and then Cith the league is getting tighter. As you say with more money filtering down more points will be lost by the top teams. The number of teams trying to play football as opposed to the long game has increased and will continue to do so. It's what makes the PL the best in the world IMO and by quite some distance.
