Time for Spurs to cash in on Townsend

This guy had about 10 games where he was magical last season, made the England squad, played for England and scored, came back and got injured. That was the beginning and end of Townsend and was a complete waste for the last 2 games - and yes, he did score from the penalty spot against Chelsea but nothing else - agree, time to move on!

This guy had about 10 games where he was magical last season, ran really fast and shot a lot, but didn't really score, assist, make key passess or anything of actual use. He made the England squad, which isn't much to get excited about these days, played for England and scored, against the mighty Montenegro, came back and got injured. That was the beginning and end of Townsend and was a complete waste for the last 2 games - and yes, he did score from the penalty spot against Chelsea but nothing else - agree, time to move on!

Fixed.

Wouldn't lose any sleep if he was sold, pretty average player imo.
He seems to be all huff & puff with all real end product to his game.I would play Holtby in his position instead,oh hang on:whistle:

Thankfully you're not the manager considering Holtby is a CM or CDM which ever he prefers. certainly isnt a winger. But i agree with your assesment of Townsend (y)

Neither use nor ornament as my old nan used to say. Cash in on him. None of this I'm a Tottenham boy and I don't want to leave. Your time is up Andros. If you harbour any serious ambitions of getting back into the England fold you need to move on.

Rumours were we rejected a £14m bid for him in the summer from Southampton, thought it was crazy money to turn down at the time and he hasn't really done much since. As much as I'd love to see him come good I just don't think he’s an intelligent enough footballer, very much a head down and run into blind alleys player. So much potential but without that footballing brain I just don't see him ever really making it at the top.

It seems people are coming around to the idea that he isn't and never was the player people thought he has/was.

When Lennon has more end product you know you're bad.

He is still living on hype, as I have said elsewhere nearly 70 games for us and we still talk about his potential.

So thats why Eriksen's not as effective when hes played out there, but we should get rid of the wide men and play good middlemen out there instead?

Firstly Pritchard is absolutely nothing alike Eriksen, just because he's an AMF by trade does not mean he cannot do a job as a wide forward. He's more dynamic and presses better than Eriksen and would be a natural fit as a wide forward in this team, much more natural then Townsend.

What you need to ask yourself is what to you think the manager is trying to achieve with this formation and group of players, what type of players the manager is looking for to fit his system as opposed to just looking at positions of players and assuming that players cannot play there.

So I prefer to ask you, what do you suggest he would be trying to achieve with no natural width? I actually think that our system wasn't 'set up for wingers' when we had to rely on Soldado in the middle, now we have some aerial threat its not conceivable that the wide play is reliant solely on the full backs.

The width comes from the full backs, the wide forwards interchange and play between the lines.

He played the same system at Southampton and Espanyol.
