A large salary is the fruit of a successful career and something everyone appreciates. But at his age, he is still developing that career and going into a World Cup year, his best choice is one in which he can play on a big stage consistently. So I imagine his relationship with the coach, the opportunities for playing time, the quality of one's teammates, stability, etc are all in play. TBH, some of those factors favor us and some don't.
