The Whole Berb Keane affair

In my best Jerry McGuire voice. “And the hits just keep on coming”

I have so many mixed thoughts and feelings about all this..One thing I am sure of, we haven’t got the whole story, and I think there maybe a few more twist and turns.(the later may be wishful thinking on my part)

On Keane…I was one of those that rated Defoe above Keane. But fully accepted that the Berbs Keane partnership worked very well, and accepted that the coaches et al didn’t see the Berbs Defoe partnership having the same success.

On Berbs, Im gutted, he is quite simple sublime.

Part 1. of me feels, about, both players wanting to leave, there heads been turned…in the cold light of day, football is a profession. A relatively short one. When a “bigger” (crowds, Reg Champ league, fighting for 1st-4th prem) wants you, wants to pay you more, possible a lot more…Can you really blame them for considering it, wanting it…well sorry I cant, Blame that is..Part of me still hopes, that they are sweet talked and convinced that staying at Spurs is right for them. And they are then happy to stay..And if not, Spurs carry on, I have always said support the team, not the individuals.

Part 2. of me feels,…Bastards! Losing our 2 strikers, now, can seriously harm our chances of challenging the top4, not make it impossible, just a lot more difficult, with a large dollop of luck that there replacement gel instantly…..utter utter Bastards!

Berbs to Man U…I hate saying it, I hate thinking it, but I cannot ignore it, it would be good for both of them…god I feel like shit now…

Keane to Pool…Actually I think Robbie may well regret this…i can see it not working, and his career, stall and slide into a bit part role that he will then be to old to recover from..(hmmm feel a tiny bit better now)

On the Spurs Board…Levy announcement, Nice to read, and I hope Robfan is right, but I think it will all come to nothing, we know we have been as guilty, it seems to be common practice..I am not aware of any serious penalties been laid down for “tapping up” by the PL..Of course I don’t know the “evidence” and how damning it is, so to some degree it maybe not so much what you do “wrong” but what you get caught for..

The clubs aspirations….Its been very well published on the clubs desire to challenge the top 4…But I think our salary policy, hinders this ambition somewhat…(see part 1) and it’s a difficult one to solve..a bit of chicken and egg in this one.

The let them rot in reserves……..sorry you just don’t throw 50 odd mil down the drain…If they really don’t want to be a spurs player, then they do need to be sold, for the figure the club find acceptable.

Some adding 2+2 and quite possible getting 4/5/6….

On Keane, Just maybe he sees His days well be numbered, in been 1st choice and can see a lot of bench time heading his way..So has decided now is a good time for him to move on.

On Berbs, Just maybe the board etc, were 90% sure this will happen, and have been diligent working on who to replace him with.

Will we only sell Berbs and Keane to anyone but Man U and Pool…it’s a nice thought, nicer when added by an evil smile(try it)…But no I don’t think so..I think it will be the most offered and its an acceptable one to the club…Although if for example Barca matched Man U, bid, I can then see us saying, “Hey Berbs, Man U don’t want you that much, only offered a shitty little sum, but Barca have offered and acceptable bid, do you wanna go chat?”…

Now I have said all this…….. still feels like…well a bit of fvcker really, And truthfully I am still clinging to that, admittedly, thin thread that they will stay.

keane will end up on the wing at liverpool (and look at what babel did from the wing for them, f.all)

the wing, a place keane does not want to play, a position he should have occupied for spurs a long time ago..

at first it will suit liverpool, a quality , clever attacking player, but keane does not like playing that far away from goal, or being ''rested''

it will piss him off, eat him up, his form will drop

I think people need to stop panicking too much. I know it's tough right now, by currently they're still Tottenham players and Levy and co. are doing everything in their power to keep it that way. We own them, we can affectively do what we want with them and do what Martin O'Neill has done to Gareth Barry, reject every bid coming in and let him rot in the reserves because he won't play. If Keane and Berbs will do the same then they should recieve the same.

I dont disagree with you, as i said in the opener, theres still alot more to happen yet...And its not difficult to come up with a 100 (well ok several) different outcomes...of which some of those would include one or both staying.......

i do firmly believe we will not sell them for less than there value

As far as i am aware Pool have made no bid

As far as i am aware Man U have not offered our valuation

IIRC i read Ramos put his whole (or nearly whole) 1st team into the ressies, and played the ressies in the senior game...When he was a manager of another club(sorry don't remember which) because he was pissed of about there lack of commitment..So i don't think he will be soft with Keane and Berbs, as it seems clear he wouldn't have a problem from the supporters..

If We do not recieve a bid that is acceptable, I can see both players remaining, starting the season with commitment, and what then happens will depend on what start we have..

BUT....but,the offers could come and they are both gone....We are left to create a new strike force from in less than a month and counting.......So all in all..it is a bit of fucker really

That is just wishful thinking. Liverpool have a need in attack. They have sold Crouch. Voronin is probably gonna be off too. Kuyt has become more of a midfielder and Babel plays wide.

They need someone to run off Torres who is similar player to Berbatov. How can it not work for Keane?

Just need to take the money. As much as possible. And move on.

Who knows what will happen? All I know is that nothing will happen without Ramos' consent, which is how it should be. If he thinks he can do better with the money they would generate, then off they go. If he wants to keep them, I think the club is strong enough to reject any bids that are not extraordinary.

From the thread title I thought things had gone from bad to worse and that Robbie and Dimi were dating.

That would have been weird...

Did he not take a sub off and make his team play with 10 men?

I have mixed views over this. Letting them rot in the reserves would do a lot of damage to the squad morale and we will need the transfer fees to replace them or at least get a partner for Bent.

On the other hand, a part of me wants to see Spurs refuse to sell them and stand up to Man Utd & Liverpool. If we give in to them then in a few seasons time we could end up in the exact same situation where a top four team is attempting to get Modric or dos Santos off us.

People need to chill out. The only real on field problem I can see for Spurs this season is not having the ball stick when we play it into the fowards. Berbs has excellent hold up play and we'll miss that. On the other hand, I'm sure we'll just change that aspect of our play unless we buy a Huntlaar or similar striker to hold the ball up. I can see us playing more balls into the channels for Bent, Lennon, Jenas A.N other to run on to. On top of that, I expect us to have far better ball retention in midfield this season with Modric and hopefully another technically able midfielder joining. Spurs will sign another striker and if Bent is given a proper run in the side, I expect him to score more goals than Keane, so anybody worried about scoring goals this season shouldn't.

One problem I do envisage is possibly one of team spirit. By all accounts, Keane was pretty good in the dressing room and the younger players especially looked up to him. With less of an 'English core' we may struggle in this department when we do have a bad spell but hopefully Gus will keep the boys positive.

Keane won't be missed, but Berba will, as he is world class. Keane is undoubtly talented but his lack of pace and a tendacy to go missing means we could replace him with someone better suited to Ramos's style of play and maybe more productive than keeping Keane
